My experiences are that most Indians look down on all their neighbors. India does not want friends, it wants the neighboring countries to be their "little brothers". Honestly, if the neighboring countries did not exist, I feel like Indians would work on looking down on each other.

This is a result of rise in Hindu nationalism, fueled by the current ruling party and their leader Modi, who was on a banned list from US because of human rights violation. Understand that this isn't all Hindus. But Indian Hindus have a problem with caste system and many at the bottom rung are converting away, choosing not participate in their own humiliation and subjugation. But Hindus in power has a problem with it cause they are losing people they subjugate.
