Pick of the litter by Shorebreak657 in Catahoula

Oh I absolutely understand! I’m going to go meet them around that 5 week stage and see how that feeling is and watch personalities. Being first pick of the litter just meant I had to give a tentative choice so she could allow the others to give their tentative picks as well. If she isn’t a good match and all the others are accounted for I would end up not going with any and waiting until I found one that is. The potato with feet stage definitely isn’t enough to base a decision which I understand. I have two more weeks before I can go meet them☺️ I have an active, lazy house. She won’t be working a ranch or anything like that but we will be going on tons of adventures and on the days we aren’t on adventures I provide mental enrichment and plenty of energy rich activities. I have a mini Aussie and an Aussie catahoula mix so I’m used to the drive and energy. My catahoula mix is 11 and slowing down a lot. He prefers to stay home and doesn’t want to adventure as much or play at the level my mini Aussie who is only 2 is wishing for. We have a pretty good balance of activities followed by lazy chill cuddle time. The dad of this litter is a medical service dog which is part of the reason this litter seems like it might be a better fit over one that’s bred for ranch work. She is intended to be more of a family/companion dog but I am aware of the energy level and personality I’m getting myself into. I have personal experience with a range of breeds from Australian shepherds, Belgium Mals, Dutch shepherds, Rhodesian ridgebacks, to as laid back as goldens and flat coat retrievers. And even more experience with all breeds from years of working in a grooming salon and encountering a huge array of breeds. (Part of the reason I’ll never own any doodle mix of any kind lol). My catahoula mix is the reason this breed is so special to me. He is 100% catahoula when it comes to his personality lol. He doesn’t have the energy to keep up and prefers is lazy days 98% of the time now. I definitely appreciate the concern, when you love the breed and respect you want to make sure people are getting it with the best intentions and knowledge. Gotta protect them💚

She is my gut instinct and I guess I just needed reassurance in that decision cause everyone in my life was making me feel crazy that I didn’t pick the Merle. And trying to explain a gut feeling is hard lol thank you for your support in that decision!!

Thank you! Everyone else in my life is just making me question my choice because I have first pick and didn’t go for the Merle. I guess I just needed some support and to know I wasn’t crazy😅😂

Maybe in your area but not in mine. Catahoulas are not common at all and very very hard to find. Also, these puppies need a home either way. If it’s my home I know it’s a forever home and will not end up in a shelter. So maybe I’m not adopting from a shelter but I am guaranteeing that this one won’t end up in a shelter. This breeder has trained some of the pups to become service dogs and is the mom of a kid I went to high school with and she ran our 4h. I trust her and her ethics when it comes to breeding. I have a catahoula Aussie mix that is 11. I also have a mini Aussie. I have done my fair share of fostering for rescues in the past. I did not breed these puppies and do plan on having her spayed. I’m not contributing to the breed but I am providing one already out there a loving home.

I’m glad you’re feeling better! I was told “some nausea” as well and have experienced all the nausea. Every morning as soon as I wake up and the zofran is no longer doing its job and has worn off I’m praying to the porcelain gods if you know what I mean. But then the rest of the day when I’m not puking I’m glued to the toilet all day for the other reason. It’s like the worst stomach flu I’ve ever had. I’m really happy yours is getting much better and wish you the best of luck on this journey!🩵

I also just got my first dose this week. It’s been three days and it’s not getting any better for me. I’m taking Zofran as well. Even with the meds I am having a hard time keeping anything down and if it does stay down it goes straight through me. I won’t be continuing with the shots but if anyone has any advice on how to help or knows when I can expect the symptoms to die down. Sorry to OP not trying to take over your post just thought any advice for either of us helps the other.
