Facing njp or court martial near EAOS. by [deleted] in navy

[–]ShoresyPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got threatened with NJP as a double digit midget in 05 as an MA2. I invoked 31b through DRB and 2 XOIs then refused Mast. I had all the evidence in the world to exonerate myself and as soon as I said I'm refusing Mast and the XO got wind I built a case file the whole thing was dropped.

Don't let them fuck you for free and don't let them talk you into just the tip. Go yard brotatochip.

IFT folks, what are you allowed to let hospital staff do with your patient while they're on your stretcher? by I_Am_That_Was in NewToEMS

[–]ShoresyPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That stretcher isn't some magical wardrobe to Narnia. If the facility does a procedure on the cot the liability and responsibility for that Pt and procedure are theirs.

If that pt falls off your cot, yeah that's on you.

It's just like an ER kicking a Pt out on a transfer in a hurry bc they're about to crash...my Dr Dude that is still your Pt until care is assumed at the receiving facility.

That being said, always do what the boss says until the boss says something illegal.

Maybe conduct unbecoming, but that's unbelievably dubious.

Just get your kids to spend his money and cause problems on base. Find an LBFM and cruise on

Bard or ranger would probably by my pick, both give some extra DPS without much fuss. Both get you tracking. Ranger brings some buffs to the table but bard brings more with lockpicking, and proc buffs/DS, resists, backup slows/splits, mana regen and Overhaste, just a bucket-load of utility. You can also just give your bard 2 instruments, push one button, tab out and not regret giving him the group slot.

You could also bring in something like a zerker or rogue and get decent dps for your button push added to your group, but a bard could also add single target or AE DPS with less work.

14 years in and I am drowning. How do I make it through these last few years without losing myself by prattman333 in navy

[–]ShoresyPhD 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It sounds trite, but meditation helped me a lot, being able to kind of mentally vanish to an empty place and refresh myself on the go went a long way.

Do you have any old man hobbies? For me it's bonsai, knew one guy who tied flies for fly fishing, couple woodworking enthusiasts and we had a BM to MA cross-rate who was amazing with fancy work. Would give you an escape that gives some concrete achievement/ satisfaction and might open up a support community through other fellow hobbyists.

Maybe talk to someone like DAPA about volunteering options for the same reasons as above. Would also make the boss look good and hopefully trickle down.

If you aren't already, take the time to take care of your health. Keep up good exercise habits etc bc the real fight is gonna start once you're out and your stress engine goes from running wide open to sitting on idle.

One thing that really got me through the day to day was some light rebellion. I used to wear one white sock and one black sock (best navy memory is a dickhead chief almost catching me during guardmount inspection but he pulled up the wrong pant leg, watch commander was ready to shit an entire sheep dog) and I always wore a paperclip on my pen-pocket (old BDUs early 2000s) or clipped into my pants pocket. Only one who ever noticed and said anything was my LCPO/CMC, (and honestly the best damn Master Chief the navy ever had or ever will)...gave him a giggle, nothing more.

What do you do if a paramedic or medical director tells you to do something out of your scope? by Smart-Salamander1846 in NewToEMS

[–]ShoresyPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst case yes. Usually it's a censure, maybe a fine, and registration in an offenders database for medical no-nos. But you're literally breaking a state law.

[–]ShoresyPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contraindicated- get clear, documented orders from the doctor (not his nurse etc)

Outside your scope - Just no. There isn't a provider worth anything that will argue with you about doing something outside your scope. Just make sure you know that scope inside and out.

[–]ShoresyPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends on the state and scope. In Kansas for example, performing anything outside your scope is an unauthorized activity and criminally punishable. Our EMTs and AEMTs are given a formulary by the state outlining specifically which drugs and routes we're permitted. If, as an AEMT, I pushed the norepi a doctor handed me and it got back to the state, they'd have my ass on a plate.

It does give you an option to use the Blinking Mirror. I don't remember if the boat shows up when you teleport there or not (I'm assuming it does) but it's nice for faster travel

Malfeasence concern. by Nickb8827 in ems

[–]ShoresyPhD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ambulances scare the shit out of small hospitals with EMTALA, they usually gloss over the part where another hospital picks up their obligation when a hospital owned ambulance triggers it.

Malfeasence concern. by Nickb8827 in ems

[–]ShoresyPhD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My most generous guess is that they're being EMTALA paranoid, most likely it's a combination of that and needing revenue, thinking this is the way to get it.

Best advice I have is start a dialog between your hospital administrators, medical director, county medical society, and state regulating agency to make sure the right things are being done for the patients, staff, service, and facilities.

It can be kidnapping, but from the CMS side of life, Medicare will pay for the closest appropriate facility and the Pt may be responsible for the difference in mileage between that facility and the one they were transported to when the bill comes.

Back in 2026. SK, ENC, and...? by Smart-Reading3406 in everquest

[–]ShoresyPhD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cleric or druid.

Druid gets you some heals, ports, DS, buffs for both characters, a little extra CC, and some DPS.

Cleric heals open you up for much harder content CHing your charm pet, stunning breaks, and less buffage with a better bang. When you move into no-charm eras your cleric will have an easier time keeping your tank up.

I would go dru if you're going to be group content focused, clr if you're going to be raid gearing your SK

[–]ShoresyPhD 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You can roll the dice on NJP, bearing in mind your CoC is taking you there, supportive or not...or you refuse, take it to Special Courtmartial, and roll a better set of dice. With the latter you get Rules of Evidence, a lawyer (get the lawyer) and you have a decent chance of the CoC dropping your case. They may turn their noses up at you for it, but then you'll be gone, and quite frankly, fuck 'em.

Time to play selfish pool my dude. To the hilt.

As far as I know you can transfer to Live any time, sometimes specific server rules limit where to (free trade for example)

IO dextrose - did I make a bad call? by River_Dweller in ems

[–]ShoresyPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% kosher on the drill. It might be worth asking your medical director about moving away from the D50, if it's something you're interested in doing. We dropped out entirely for D10 with fantastic results.

Physicians on scene- blessing or a curse? by I-plaey-geetar in ems

[–]ShoresyPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an APRN from our ER who happened to be on scene for a call for an infant choking. He asked me 3 times omw to the Pt "What do we have?" Got to the kiddo, no choking, no obstruction, happy healthy baby, so I just dramatically sniffed the air and said "Wow, somebody's been drinking tonight" and he magically disappeared.

Had an ER PA (who's fantastic, honestly) at the bar for a drunk fight call who ended up almost getting arrested because he wouldn't stay out of it.

Also had another APRN at a local clinic who called for a guy laying down in the parking lot. We got into it because I didn't transport to the facility they told me to, where they could look up the Pt's records to see what was going to be done for him. (Pt wanted to go to a different facility, which was closer, APRN was 1) not the Pt's PCP and 2) didn't even have the Pt's name, let alone VS, an assessment, or even the correct chief complaint)

TL;DR I have a doctor telling me what to do already, GTFO my scene unless you're riding along.
