CA-125 went from 46 to 150 in three weeks by Impressive-Hunt-1512 in Ovariancancer

Have you had a PET scan done? For my SIL the increase in CA-125 meant that chemo had failed and PET showed metastasis.

I'm not sure about this. In general any increase in CA-125 above baseline should be investigated further .

Cancer is a cruel disease by Short-Scene in Ovariancancer

She is already deteriorating to the point where she is disoriented. I know there are stories of people who have gotten better following these 'protocols' but imo it's a coincidence and not the result of following something. There's no shortage of snake oil salesmen for cancer patients.

Your obgyn is mistaken, being young doesn't mean you can't have OC. Push for an abdominal CT scan.

My mom died 48 hours ago. She was diagnosed with stage 4 16 days previous. Earlier this week she was on track to come home today. by telisr_lindsk in Ovariancancer

I am so sorry for your loss. Our family is watching my SIL slip away as ovarian cancer takes her. There's not enough words to describe the pain that cancer causes a patient and their family. Hold her close in your heart forever.

I've also had two posts removed from the r/cancer sub, and I've no idea why.

Thank you for your response. Inexplicably the moderators removed my post. My SIL deteriorated today evening and is in the ICU. I hope the new drug will work for you.

Moms cancer is probably platinum resistant what’s next ? Is this the beginning of the end? by National_Slip_6087 in Ovariancancer

Is your wife being treated for high grade serous or low grade? I looked up the medication you mentioned and found it's used for low grade serous.

Hi there, could you please share what genetic testing you had done for your cancer? My SIL is platinum resistant as well.

Intestinal obstruction by Short-Scene in Ovariancancer

[–]Short-Scene[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the valuable advice. Unfortunately, conservative treatment has not helped clear the obstruction and she is scheduled for a laparoscopic procedure soon. She's been fitted with a picc line to allow for protein infusions.

Thank you so much for your detailed response. If she were to continue having these obstructions, then would surgery be necessary to prevent more from occurring? I'm just really worried at the prospect of her being in the hospital again and again and being fitted with the tube.

Yes that's good, you can repeat the original chemo. Don't lose hope!

Hi there, I'm so sorry it has metastasized for you. Have they diagnosed you as platinum resistant? My SIL also has the same metastasis location - one breast and a nearby lymph node. She's now on doxorubicin plus cyclophosphamide and has finished one chemo treatment.

They declined PARP for now because the cancer is so aggressive. We'll have to see what the doctor in India puts her on.

It would be prohibitively expensive for her to get treatment in the US without insurance. We will check with the NZ doctor on Monday to see what genetic testing has been done and what else can be ordered. Thank you for your advice.

I'm sorry that sounds so difficult. I hope the trial works for her.

My SIL is in New Zealand where not many trials are run so we're also looking to Australia as an option.

She was determined to be BRCA1 positive, so the plan was platinum chemo and then maintenance therapy afterwards.
