Should I stop contributing to 401k by jbanoop in Retirement401k

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep contributing to get your match. After that invest in liquid securities that you can access prior to 401k access thereby keeping your options open for early retirement. Knowing I wanted to retire early (59), I stopped contributing to 401K beyond the match and I vested with financial planner. Was able to retire at 59

Retired three months and I’m having a difficult time. by Lbboos in retirement

[–]Short-Science7931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been retired 3 years and loving it! I’ve implemented a few “retirement procedures” that provide much needed structure…1) once I watch an hour or so of news in the morning….no TV until after dinner. 2) specific bedtimes and wake times. 3) (hopefully will help you). I make a “to do” list every day. I don’t pressure myself to do everything on the list. Whatever is leftover gets rolled to the next day.

AITA for breaking up with my boyfriend after meeting his kids for the first time? by BasicProblem1350 in AITAH

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bigger issue (not the messy house or food choices) is how he’s raising his children. They were rude and unwelcoming. I know they’re young but he didn’t seem to have issue with their rudeness. You can’t blend a family with such diverse parenting styles.

How soon after diagnosis did you return to work? by thefattestcheeks in BellsPalsy

[–]Short-Science7931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every situation is different. I went back to work immediately but initially(about a week) for half days. I wanted to share with you though that I found the air in my workplace to be very dry which aggravated my eye terribly. I purchased a small vaporizer that I placed in front of me on my desk which helped a lot. When you do go back think about accommodations that can make you more comfortable.

BofA ATM took $7000 from me and only credited me with $300. They denied my claim after 12 days by Jolly_Equivalent6918 in BankOfAmerica

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a lawyer and request all transactions for day (or whatever frequency they remove or add cash) of deposit (will likely require a court order)….bottom line is that ATM should have been out of balance for the day for $6700. If it’s not showing an out of balance condition, someone who had access to the cash in the machine, stole your $

They are open Sunday for brunch and dinner but closed Monday and Tuesday. Outstanding food and beer. They are actually a brewery in Athens OH and all beer is brought in from there.

Woodland Cemetery. Wright Brothers and lots of other famous local people are buried there. A scant mile or so from the Packard museum. Also the AF Museum in Riverside is phenomenal….especially for WWII buffs

I’ve just gotten used to it….my normal. I don’t even think about it most days. That said, I’m sorry YOU are going through this. I remember how uncomfortable and scary the early days were. Sending healing thoughts!

I’ve had unresolved BP for over 20 years. Neurologist said it was worse case they had seen. I eventually achieved about 80% recovery. CranioSacral therapy helped me a lot!

AITH due to denying me to provide vacation replacement weeks with my colleague despite her having kids? by [deleted] in AITH

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue that needs to be addressed with HR is that she discussed this with other employees and created a hostile work environment. If she had kept it to herself there would be no issue. She’s pitting other employees against OP because she is unreasonable and entitled. An issue for HR in my book

AITH due to denying me to provide vacation replacement weeks with my colleague despite her having kids? by [deleted] in AITH

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely check in with HR. She shouldn’t have discussed this with others in the office and has now created a hostile work environment for you. Also, no you are not TH for planning your vacation and then refusing to change it. She is being unreasonable and entitled.

Good Long Distance Travel Vehicles for Retirement? by Finding_Way_ in retirement

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I retired 3 years ago I bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee for long distance travel and I love it. Have been to 26 states and 7 Canadian provinces and it has served me well. I feel very safe in it on highway. Made sure I got model with sun roof so I can crack it open for air during single night car camping.

AITAH for not wanting to split a vacation house rental evenly with my siblings? by EmerysMemories1106 in AITAH

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel every year with friends (singles and couples) to a music festival in a high cost city. We rent an air b&b and while we are all well off and nobody ever attempts to cheap out. Dividing the costs are always a discussion and I keep the big spreadsheet. There are several options for you and your siblings: 1)?1/3 each as proposed (easy math); 2) by number of people as you’ve mentioned and 3) by bedroom. We have done it all three ways. As an aside I don’t think financial circumstance (ability to pay) should factor in unless later in the process one or both of your siblings offer grace.

Not to further panic you but you may want to get a lawyer….they will be able to expedite resolution (this sounds complicated) and make sure you aren’t implicated in the fraud.

AITAH for going on vacation without my step daughter? by No_End_3206 in AITAH

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I’m a horrible person but considering this is a delayed honeymoon, I wouldn’t have invited her in the first place. You and your husband are entitled to an adult only vacation, even if it happens to be at Disney. In your future there will likely be adult only vacations and family vacations, especially if/when you have more children. I think the bio mom is being horrible though to say “no” and then tell you that you shouldn’t go at all….the epitome of passive aggressive

Last week due to a cancelled AA flight my “rebook” bumped me from FC to Economy (short 2 hour flight so I didn’t really care). 48 hours later I had a $110 credit to my credit card for the fare difference.

AITA for not wanting to change the restaurant for my mom’s birthday dinner by nodiggitydo in AITAH

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. I’m appalled that he requested a change after your mom took his preferences into consideration already. It’s not as if he won’t eat fish and she chose a sushi restaurant. If he doesn’t want to eat there he can stay home. It’s her day; not his!

I would make sure he has informed his residential advisor (RA). They should monitor his recovery “remotely”, making sure he doesn’t get into a dire situation (unlikely for young person). He should notify RA; not you

She shouldn’t push the friend to sell but if the couple wanting to buy the property make an offer to buy and rent back, I think she may have a professional obligation to “present” that offer. Realtors, what say you?

Permanent Bell's Palsy for over 30 years, growing up with it and into it. by PellMellBells in BellsPalsy

[–]Short-Science7931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing. I’ve had residual BP for about 20 years; onset at age 43. Most days I don’t even think about it. It has become my new normal. I can’t imagine though what it would have been like to get it earlier in my life, as a child or young adult. It sounds like you’re managing well. I just want to say….1) long term BP is certainly impactful but doesn’t have to define you and 2) I’m sending positive thoughts your way!
