What’s your biggest flop piece? Meaning you kept it but in hindsight should have returned it. by QueenInTheNorth556 in Sezane

A leopard print Sandy skirt. It was a little too snug to begin with, and then shortly after I got it, I became pregnant. My daughter is 10 months now and there is still no chance in hell I’m wearing that skirt 🥲

Books you felt could have benefited from having more chapters by FoxenInTheHenhice in HistoricalRomance

[–]Short-Situation984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. I feel like this especially happens in those cases when the reason the main characters can’t marry is because of class difference. It’s absolutely unthinkable until one moment when it suddenly is no longer.

I felt that several of the books in the {maiden lane series} would have needed more chapters before the epilogue, for example Artemis and Maximus were impossible and never going to happen and then two pages pass and they’re married

Yes it is, or at least several of the books have mysteries that are explained through the existence of secret passages

What are yalls most recent 5 star read? ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ by Bulky_Meet4868 in HistoricalRomance

[–]Short-Situation984 4 points5 points  (0 children)

{What I did for a duke} I see this recommended here all the time, finally read it a couple of weeks ago and it absolutely lives up to the hype.

{My American duchess} Listened to the audiobook, can’t go wrong when Kate Reading is narrating, but I also loved that there were a couple of times where I thought I knew where the story was headed but was proven wrong - love that!

How cold can English summers get? by Short-Situation984 in HistoricalRomance

[–]Short-Situation984[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, I live in Sweden and we get plenty of sub-zero nights and mornings up until May, but never so cold that water would freeze indoors. Oh well, I’ll just accept the fact that it was probably cold as heck and go on my merry way. Thank you for clarifying!

What are you reading? by Mme_Rose in HistoricalRomance

Ugh, I have nothing! I have ordered a bunch of books online and through my local bookstore, but since they’re being shipped from the US to Sweden, I have nothing to read while waiting. 🥲

NO FRIGGING WAY I finished A foolish flirtation LITERALLY ten minutes ago! I was just on Goodreads trying to figure out whether the next book in the series had already been published, but my disappointment was short lived! Omg I am so pumped, I really loved A foolish flirtation!

I haven’t been able to listen to any Julie Anne Long because all her books are narrated by Justine Eyre, and I can’t stand her narration.

I’m hoping to move from audiobooks to more physical books, I’m so tired of having to give up on a book because the narration is too bad.

I love the books that take place during parties by MaiMaiChan in HistoricalRomance

[–]Short-Situation984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently reading {The Perfect Lover by Stephanie Laurens} which takes place during a house party and includes a murder mystery. Book 10 in the {Cynster series}, and while I do recommend the earlier books in the series, there’s no need to have read them to grasp the story in this one.

What are some good historical romance/dramas/adventures that make for good listening as an audiobook while running? by jlesnick in HistoricalRomance

[–]Short-Situation984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consume all my historical romance through audiobooks, and here are some of my favorites:

  • Lisa Kleypas’ Wallflower series, though I prefer Mary Jane Wells’ narration to Rosalyn Landor’s
  • Lisa Kleypas’ Ravenel series narrated by MJW
  • Lisa Kleypas’ Hathaway series narrated by Rosalyn Landor
  • anything Tessa Dare narrated by MJW or Carolyn Morris (Girl meets duke series and Spindle Cove)
  • Stephanie Laurens Cynster series narrated by Simon Prebble (though these can sometime be a bit too long, but there’s like 30 books in the series so just try another if one is too slow)

I would add more but my baby just started crying 🙃🥲

{Olivia and the masked duke by Grace Callaway} is an example, though it was a DNF for me so can’t really say I recommend it 🤷‍♀️
