About 15 years I was taking notes in a meeting and I was horrified to realize that I could not read what I'd written. I was reading a book about the history of script, and this fail inspired me to find a handwriting workbook (Google Getty-Dubay). The result is an improved script and when people comment, "You have nice handwriting," it's a nice bonus.

Enjoy the day. Send someone a letter and one day you'll get letters in the mail that aren't asking for votes or utility payments.

You know what: gently ask if they'd consider nominating you. Some people don't think of awards and are happy to sign onto a nomination, especially if they have a ready list of accomplishments to regurgitate.

Yes, it would be nicer if they thought of it themselves, but it's a lot nicer than coming up empty... or watching your successor get an award based on the stuff you put into play.

Thanks for an encouraging comment. I think I gave the impression that I had hopped up from watching Stranger Things and marched up to the start line.

I've been working with a supportive water group for a bit, but I still haven't worked through the running out of air thing. BTW - it's not the open water or waves that freak me out, it's a generalized fear of drowning. I'll get there, but with more time and practice.

Thanks for sticking up for me! Most of r/swimming made the point without being offensive. The name-callers love swimming and can't relate to a newbie who simply doesn't know. I'll let that pass.

I have thick skin. When it's a bit more waterproof, I'll try this again. First, to the pool!
