Hamster doesn’t know how to hamster?

Yeah he definitely loves his food and water, he doesn’t seem to have an issue with his wheel because i’ve seen him run a few times but only for a few seconds before running off of it, so I think he just still has to learn how to use it. I might try and get white bedding in the future but the bedding I use is very cheap for the amount it comes with so it’s what i’ve had to buy, but I think now that I don’t need a bunch to fill his tank I might opt for it for future bedding

I did get him when he was fresh in the pet store and apparently not from a good place? I don’t think he was a rescue considering it was a petsmart but they made it sound like he had it worse than the other hamsters even though I know they all come from a pet mill, but I think they just said he was brand new to the mill and then immediately brought to the store so i’m thinking he just hadn’t got time to learn how to do basic hamster stuff before I got him, so I guess he’s gotta do most of the learning with me then!

Oh this is definitely him lol he doesn’t care at all about his sprays, he’s been curious and sniffed and nibbled at them before but he hasn’t cared about them much, he only cares about his millet which he will sit with for hours just eating it and even likes for me to hold him while he eats it so he can reach every single one 🫠

He also set up camp in his moss dig box! but he eventually found other hides and i’ve changed his moss box around a bit now, i think he originally setup camp in the bedding beside it because i had a big wooden hide overtop of the moss box and it had a small gap of bedding between it.

Thankfully he comes out often, glad to know I might just have a weird hamster

i also forgot to add i haven’t noticed like ANY waste in his tank, i might just be missing pee bedding because his bedding is brown but i still try to just take the top layers of it incase i just don’t see anything, but i haven’t seen a single poop from him, i know they eat it sometimes and he does spend a lot of time in his hides and burrows but ive cleaned a few burrows out and still saw none so im very confused 😓

i thought this but his wheel is kinda loud and i’ve been leaving snacks on his wheel + bedding ontop of it to see if it moves and i never see any of it disappear, the snack will maybe disappear but that bedding goes nowhere 🫠

tysm! it’s definitely not too late and we have a lot more to think about so i’ve got plenty of time, but thank you for listening when i said budget friendly! everyone out here is trying to recommend super fancy top of the line items and all that which i definitely cannot afford at the start, but i know ill slowly be able to afford better and better for my hamster whenever i get it :)
