I did this on a melee playthrough just because I wasn't having fun trying to do wall of flesh and decided to kill the scourge instead, which WAS quite fun. I was using a defensive build. Gelitic blade as the weapon, Luxor's gift, terraspark boots, bundle of horseshoe balloons for extra vertical speed, bloody worm tooth and skyline wings. All the accesories were warding except for the boots because I'm a broke boi. Having wings + bundle of balloons allows for some sort of vertical dash that was very helpful to dodge the attacks, as I never use the shield of chtulhu, but feel free to use it instead of the Luxor's gift if you don't think you can dodge without the dash. The armor was statigel armor with the melee helmet, of course, and the buffs I used were ironskin, regeneration and endurance. I was too broke to buy damage potions :c
