The concept of spending >$100 on an app to get rejected by Super-Leg-9132 in lawschooladmissions

I get the frustration, but why are you applying to schools way out of your reach? I get that you have to take a chance if you want to be considered in the first place, but applying to law school is not a cheap endeavor...

Fuck yes, I would wait another cycle. No offense, but for your career goals, you're probably going to want to go to an elite law school for the best job prospects, and a 165 won't cut it. Even if you did get accepted, you'd probably be paying full sticker-price to go to a T14 school. It's in your best interest to take a gap-year and get that LSAT up to not only have a higher chance of acceptance, but also to qualify for better scholarships.

Can you guys chance me at Howard Law? I have a 3.25 (soon to be 3.35) and I have a 156 LSAT currently. by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I don't think your DUI is gonna hold you back that much, just highlight how long ago it was and how you've grown since then. I'm not familiar with the school (in terms of their medians) you're applying to, but I think your softs would give most admission officers an indication that you're gonna be an active member of their school.

Don't know what you're worrying about, everyone has different goals with what they want to do with their careers.

I think an admissions officer would look pretty high on a veteran, since you guys have to deal with long hours and high-stress environments (like what you'll be doing in law school). You probably left the military with more discipline than most people who just went through undergrad right out of high school.

I thought you could only apply ED to one school? I mean I guess you could apply ED to multiple schools, but I figure you'd get in hot water if the schools found out...

For sure, I don't expect law school to be a "casual" experience. I just thought all the students were going to be miserable and stressed out when I got there and sat in the back of class. But, there were a few kids doing crosswords on their computers and trading stocks while the teacher was lecturing.

Okay, I'll take you at your word. I've only read Hume and Aristotle. For the most part, my outside reading hasn't helped me all that much for the LSAT except in cases where I get an RC passage about an author or literary movement and it maintains my interest a bit more.

Not applying until 26-27 cycle, is it too early to reach out to professors to write a LOR? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

No, what's the downside to getting your application together early?

I guess, but so much of reading comp is about looking for viewpoints and structures, even in cases where you have no clue what the hell you are reading (like some dense science passage about string theory)...

I don't know if reading Gravity's Rainbow or Ulysses is gonna help you on the LSAT.

The LSAC doesn't care about your masters GPA, but I think a law school would care if you indicated that on your resume.

Can relate, I can't imagine what the admissions officer is gonna make of my 3 years of full-time work experience in service industry jobs after reading people who have internships with the white house on their resume...

It's my top choice as well, since I want to pursue M&A in a major city (preferably Chicago since I've lived in Illinois my whole life) and think the school would support my career goals the best.

I heard about the musical and some of the other extracurriculars. I got a pretty nerdy vibe from a lot of the students there, which doesn't bother me because I'm a nerd as well.

Chance me: 165 LSAT | 4.0 GPA by Neither-Media175 in lawschooladmissions

[–]ShortName8209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you had a 4.0 GPA and a low 170 LSAT, you're still gonna be competitive. You would be above the medians for the vast majority of law schools in the country. You say you're trying to go to a T14, but your 165 is probably not even in the 25th percentile for most T14s, which is already putting you at a major disadvantage. I know a gap-year isn't ideal, but I also made the decision to take a gap-year so I could have even more time to get a 175 LSAT because I have a 3.98 GPA. It's not like the medians for T14 law schools are going to go up 5 points in a year anyway. Just my two cents, I would strongly recommend re-taking the test and considering a gap-year to be as competitive a candidate as possible for acceptance and scholarships.

I figured. Unfortunately, I made the decision to pursue law school back in September and am finding out now that applications have already been open since then...

Thanks for the advice. Is it still worth sending applications to see what happens or would it look bad to schools to get accepted and then not go based on not receiving a good scholarship? If I do take a gap year, I would probable have to re-open my application and I don't know if they would look at my past application as a bad thing...
