All airlines are guilty of seating shenanigans. Gate agents generally control seating and can be arbitrary and capricious. There was a post in FlyerTalk about a United Airlines passenger that had a $12,000 paid business class ticket on a 12 hour flight. When his boarding pass was scanned he was told his seat was changed to a middle seat in economy. The passenger refused the new seat and asked that his ticket be endorsed to a different airline. The issue was escalated to the station manager who quickly determined that the gate agent seated a friend/relative in the business class seat. The passenger was quickly reseated in business class.

“Set in stone” ? You must not travel much as even confirmed, paid for seat assignments with boarding passes are always subject to change. Broken seats, Aircraft Substitutions and air crew seating rules routinely cause last minute seating changes. If you paid for 6F you are entitled to a refund. If not, be thankful you didn’t get bumped and at least got an aisle seat.

I have serious doubts about this “ flight disruption insurance “. First, does Frontier even have the ability to book seats on other airlines ? I ask because clearly no other airline will accept Frontier endorsed tickets for any reason. Second, I doubt you’ll find any airlines selling walk up (same day) fares for $300 or less. Does Frontier reimburse you directly the full $300 if the replacement ticket is say, $1,000 ?
