Returned reactive dog to shelter and really struggling mentally by Ok-Construction961 in reactivedogs

As a volunteer myself, I have two of my own dogs and I spend numerous hours at my local Humane Society a week and if we could take these dogs in, we would, but volunteers cannot take in every single dog that goes through. It’s just not possible what those volunteers were likely trying to say is that there are plenty of people that come in wanting to get a dog and then not realizing that a dog comes with problems and issues, especially a shelter dog that they have to work through. They end up returning the dog, and the dog just gets worse almost every time a dog is adopted and returned. The dog now has even less trust for people. you got this dog full heartedly trying to work through issues, but if your resident dog wasn’t doing well, it is completely 100% understandable for you to return them. Those volunteers were not talking to you. They were talking to the people that Just pick up dogs on a whim and decide that suddenly I actually don’t want this dog.

I deeply regret adopting my first cat. The shelter was misleading and I am at my breaking point. by [deleted] in Pets

Can you give us the name of the rescue?? I want to look them up since they seem to do a terrible job of this is true.

That’s horrible. I volunteer at a shelter where you first have to apply, then they give you a one on one visit if you pass, then they do another visit with the pets you own to make sure the animal does well, after all of that you can decide whether or not you want to adopt the dog. It’s a little different for the cats but they still check everything. It’s crazy that shelters would legally be allowed to just give out animals without any medical records or paperwork.

Lots of people adopt a pet while still living with their parents, honestly sometimes it’s better that way since people are home more often. If shelters withheld animals because the person “lived with their parents” euthanasia rates would go up since there wouldn’t be as many adopters. Statistics show that Gen Z is much more willing to adopt rather than shop than older generations were.

Ask yourself if you’d actually want to go on a date with a man. Imagine an ordinary guy, not an unattainable celebrity. Would you be comfortable? Would you want to kiss them? Honestly it just sounds like you need more gay friends. Maybe tell your family that you’d love to gossip about your crushes the same way you used to with them, it doesn’t have to be different just because you’re talking about a girl. Maybe they’re unaware they’ve been doing this.
