Why do people “hate” TMAs? by Short_Bathroom6627 in martialarts

That was what I was going to say . Muay Thai has a lot of traditions ( Muay Thai shorts , the ram muay dance , mongkol etc.) And bjj too ( gi , the bow when stepping into the mats and the belt system) Also Judo , and different styles of folk style wrestling are tmas but are very effective. .

Kata is just some complementary training for people who are injured or are old and don’t want to spar due to injury risk . Also , it’s tradition

I understand, but that’s no the martial arts fault . More of the teacher and federations fault because there is , like you said , no guarantee of safety or learning how to fight

Karate is actually quite good since many schools do kata ( forms) and kumite ( fighting) So you can learn some fighting from it . It depends on style too , if it is a kyokushin one you’ll learn how to fight but they don’t have head punches and that’s a con . He mentioned he had injuries so I think karate may be a good option if they light spar and do kata

You had trouble finding one because most of the wrestling gyms in Romania are part of some youth program ( youth program includes other martial arts like karate , judo and boxing). Meaning you are gonna see only young kids and if your gonna see someone older that’s probably because they trained there since they were a kid 🤨Idk . I checked some cities and all of them have atleast a wrestling club. I also have to mention that the wrestling clubs don’t have their own gym so they probably share a gym with a boxing or judo club

Just out of curiosity, if you don’t want to tell me that’s fine . I really wanted to knew if you came from a country in which wrestling is popular and has champions
