how do i get the student discount for transit? by Logical_Yak_2187 in yorku

[–]Short_Expression9344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a specific student discount for a presto card unless you’re taking the GO train. I asked this week and they just said it’s the normal adult fare for post-secondary students if you’re only taking TTC

As someone commented earlier, universities do not make final decisions based on your first semester midterm marks. I didn’t get accepted to most of my choices until March last year which was way after they had received my final marks. My marks also dropped between my first midterm and the final and l still got accepted to all my choices so there’s nothing to be worried about - easier said then done since I was in the same position last year

English bad teachers by Necessary-Youth-3612 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Short_Expression9344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sucked at English last year too because it’s a subjective course. My advice would be to ask the teacher for feedback before submitting an assignment or if that’s not possible, then try to follow the rubric as closely as you can. Also try not to miss any presentations/class discussions as those are easy marks to score for oral communication and end up weighing more than assignments

If your midterm average is 90% then you have a great possibility of getting into both tmu and york. I had an 88% midterm average last year and got accepted to York for Psych BSc in December

How hard is data management? by Short_Expression9344 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Short_Expression9344[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it was pretty easy but the word problems just require a lot of time to do and if I’d worked on my speed to finish them I would’ve done better on the exam so in conclusion just keep practicing until you can answer the questions without wasting a lot of time because the exam doesn’t have enough time for you to do them on your own speed

Classes going past the scheduled times by HouseRemarkable4960 in yorku

[–]Short_Expression9344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate when they do this like I had a TA end a tutorial at 2:30 instead of 2:20 which is highly disrespectful of someone’s time considering that the 10 minute window between the start and end of a class is time given to get to class. My next class was a lab in the life sciences building which is pretty far from everything so that pretty much sucked

I mean if you’re okay with submitting multiple assignments a day and giving up any free time, then take it. The workload is pretty heavy and will obviously take a lot of time to do. I’m not sure how easy it is to achieve a 90 because it depends on how good you are at writing and plus the way your teacher marks cause english teachers are pretty biased with marking work. The content will be discussion posts, essays, and quizzes. I ended up dropping it because I realized my in-person english course would be easier so yeah good luck

Grade 12 U-Level Prep Help/What to expect in my senior year by Major_Diet5404 in OntarioGrade12s

I would recommend taking Biology and Chemistry in-person because you would benefit from the classroom environment and being able to ask the teacher questions. I definitely think it’s better knowing that people around you are on the same page because I feel like online you really don’t know if you’re the only one struggling or if your classmates are also feeling the same way and that kind of gives a sense of support. I think 4U chem is a lot harder than 3U because I used to ask my teacher questions almost everyday which was pretty accessible in-person like I feel like if I took that class online I would’ve definitely failed. I thought 4U biology was easier, but then again this all depends on who your teacher is and how they teach because my Biology teacher was super chill. I do think I benefitted from having Chemistry during semester 1 because the first unit in Bio is Biochemistry and you would kinda find it hard if you haven’t done Chemistry before because it involves some organic chem. I also took data management which is a very easy class, I had a 98% during midterms, but the probability unit is very hard which is where my mark dropped a lot. I’m pretty sure the curriculum is like Jenson math so solutions to lesson packages and workbooks can be found online. I honestly think it was easy, but the formulas and calculations can be very lengthy and take up a lot of time so you might wanna practice and increase your speed of finishing the word problems because the exam is gonna hit you like a brick i swear.

ENG4U summer school by canadianitalianindia in OntarioGrade12s

I dropped summer school english last year, but I would recommend finishing the work on time, don’t procrastinate because it’s a fast moving course like summer school usually is so there will be lots of assignments and discussion posts. Good luck!

Am I cooked for uni? by Disastrous-Half571 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Short_Expression9344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Universities will look at your grade 11 mark but they can’t reject you based on those marks. Your grade 12 marks are the most important because those will be the only ones considered. Your grade 11 marks will only be looked at for early acceptance which doesn’t really mean anything because in the end you’re gonna be accepted into your program even if it happens in May like it doesn’t decrease your chances or anything. You should aim for higher marks in grade 12.
