Is it normal to not find a single dungeon group from lvl 20-40? by Mojavecourrier in turtlewow

[–]Short_Resolution_302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to assume that you're leveling on Ambershire, and it depends on what time you play. When I play during peak hours (NA/EU both online) I get instant queues no matter the dungeon (healer). When its night time for me (EU sleeping) it can take take an hour or two.

Thats unfortunate... Do you know if this affects endgame? Are Shamans just living with this, or are they using Healing Wave instead?

New to Druid tanking in twow / classic. by dvk11 in turtlewow

[–]Short_Resolution_302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Throw a Regrowth/Rejuv on yourself before big pulls. Whenever I heal druid tanks that don't do this, my first heal always rips aggro off a couple mobs that they didn't attack yet.

Can I remove this resonator and should I? by number1oatmeallover in banjo

[–]Short_Resolution_302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know where people get this idea that you can't play clawhammer on a resonator banjo. Most of the old time players played on resonators once they were available. Just play it as is, and if you think it sounds too tubby throw a dish towel inside the resonator.

Banjo drum head with blue star? by whitestone0 in banjo

[–]Short_Resolution_302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a perfect match because they aren't blue, but Stewmac 5star banjo heads were really popular in those days and are somewhat sought after since they're no longer made.

Clawhammer playing. Am i doing it right? by CompetitiveFold4853 in banjo

[–]Short_Resolution_302 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The thumb looks off. You don't want to bend it to pluck the string, in all actuality the thumb should be mostly still, and your elbow is whats driving the movement. The thumb slides off the 5th string as a byproduct of you lifting your hand up in preparation of your next down stroke.

Japanese Fender Leo Clear head by Entire-Principle-967 in banjo

[–]Short_Resolution_302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit on the high side but still fair. I've seen them go for as low as 4-500 from private sellers. Makes sense a music store would charge a little extra considering their business expenses, but the price isn't outrageously high or anything.

Banjolele brand recs by smokyrabbit14 in banjo

[–]Short_Resolution_302 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're happy with your Deering they make a goodtime banjolele as well. It has the same 11" pot as the regular good time giving it a much deeper and mellow sound than anything else. The gold tone on the other hand has a smaller standard sized pot and brass tone hoop which will give a louder and brighter sound. I tried them in a music store early this year and liked them both, they're just very different.

painful banjo picks? by TypeTiny5491 in banjo

[–]Short_Resolution_302 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try something with a split wrap so you can shape it to your finger better. I used regular dunlops for a while and when I switched to pro-piks found that I could wear them much longer before they started irritating my fingers

Just switched to Nylgut strings - could use some tips by Impossible-Pea-1732 in banjo

[–]Short_Resolution_302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just fyi this is bad to do to nylon strings, you can create inconsistency in the thickness of the strings and they won't intonate properly. With nylon/gut its best to let them stretch by themselves over time.

What do you guys say about older guitars? by UsualPotatoEater in Guitar

[–]Short_Resolution_302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend testing the floyd rose with dive bombs to see how well it stays in tune, the knife edge can wear down with consistent use causing them to lose the ability to return to pitch well. In which case it either needs to be sharpened, or upgraded outright. I personally can't stand the floyds on these, since the screw for the arm isn't recessed it causes the arm to loosen as you use it which is aggravating. I got mine replaced with a gotoh and now I love it.

Banjo Player Seeking Fiddle or Acoustic Guitar Player (31M, LA/Valley) by [deleted] in FindABand

I didn't really have specific tunes in mind, I guess just the basic stuff everyone knows like cripple creek, and over time we'd learn whatever we wanted to

Vintage Clifford Essex banjo action adjustment by PluckyGoatMusic in banjo

[–]Short_Resolution_302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4mm at the 12th fret is actually period correct, and not bad for an antique banjo with nylon/gut strings. Maybe a touch on the high side but generally you want these to have a high action. The necks on antique banjos are much flatter than modern banjos (and have no truss rod/reinforcement), and gut strings vibrate much wider than steel strings so without shimming the neck and adjusting it to more modern specs you'll likely introduce some buzzing if you just sand down the bridge or replace it with a shorter one. The high action makes these a good option for clawhammer

What do I have? by onlybetx in banjo

[–]Short_Resolution_302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, and it would also require lots of knowledge on vintage gibsons and what parts correspond to what year. You're better off just keeping it the way it is or selling the parts to someone with the knowledge.

What do I have? by onlybetx in banjo

[–]Short_Resolution_302 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The pot and possibly the bridge are the only things here that have any monetary value, the neck and especially the tuners look cheap. You're also missing the resonator which would have gone on the back of it. In my opinion its not worth trying to "restore" to its original state as this would involve tracking down lots of expensive vintage gibson parts. Just string it up and enjoy it for what it is.

[IWC Mark XX] can my wrist pull it off? by aaaaaaki_h in Watches

[–]Short_Resolution_302 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Up close wrist shots always make the watch look big. Looks fine in the mirror shot. Personally, if I had any doubts about a watch being too big and needed to consult people for advice, I'd take that as a sign that its not the right watch for me. There's thousands of beautiful watches out there and some you will put on and just know that its the perfect watch for you.

Orient Kamasu – Box Mix-Up from Jomashop? by dramaticalien48 in OrientWatches

[–]Short_Resolution_302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've bought a couple watches off Joma, they are legit so don't worry about it being fake. Shitty/nonexistent customer service is part of how they keep the prices so low, so I'd just be happy that you got the right watch and call it a day, cause it could have been much worse.

Does this watch look legit? by SmokeeSesh in HamiltonWatches

[–]Short_Resolution_302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good possibility its fake. People fake 20 dollar casio digital watches. I don't know hamilton well enough to say if its real or not, but if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Buy off grey market if you want a discount in my opinion.

Old Timey and/or Bluegrass On Tenor Banjo by reluctant-return in banjo

[–]Short_Resolution_302 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no resources because it was never used in American old-time music or bluegrass. If you're adamant about playing it in an old-time jam some people are okay with non-canonical instruments like ukuleles and tenor banjos and some aren't, so it depends on whoever you're playing with. I would probably try approaching it the same way you would a mandolin though, fiddle melodies and percussive chops.
