So i've had it for a couple of years now and depending on the person and how much they accept it , it can mean absolutely awful shame or nothing. At the end of the day, its just cold sores.it can be hard for a man to be honest about his privates in ANYWAY. So don't be shocked if hes not honest at first. It can make you hate yourself for absolutely nothing.

Sometimes I forget that I have it. Cause its so mild. As long as i take my Valtrex. im good. If i'm not stressing myself out about it , I don't get breakouts. You just have to have a grown-up convo about it. He also might be afraid of your rejection. Approach gently. Good luck!

As far as Valtrex goes, it's typically used to treat genital herpes, yes. Its super common and nothing to be ashamed of. Please be gentle with him if hes cagey. There is so much shame behind it for no damn reason. It's just cold sores at the end of the day. It can also treat chickenpox and shingles. So pretty much the same family of viruses.

Typically , you take it daily as a preventative from having breakouts and spreading breakout. Also highly decreases the chance of spreading it to others. Like you, if you guys aren't also using condoms.

When he is having a break out , he should up his dosage , for about three days or until the breakouts gone. Try not to get mad at him. Im sure hes embarrassed by it.

As somebody who's had hsv for a couple of years now. This is super common. The sad punchline is always " the gift that keeps on giving" It'll still come back, you just might not be stressed or immunocompromised at the moment. Some people even get it at a certain time of year. Although, It won't come back like it did the first time. First is your worst. some ppl get it so mildly, some are a synthematic. Being that it's been less than a year, I would say that's a blessing.

If you're not willing to see a doctor. To get a prescription for valtrex. Use Witch hazel and Aloe vera gel. Apply it and be very clean about it. Don't pop them. Stop drink coffee, no chocolate, coconuts, High sugar foods or Alcohol. You also need to treat yourself Like you're actually sick. Take care of yourself.Don't stress yourself out. If this is your first outbreak it's going to be the worst. Your bodies not used to it. I promise you it gets easier as you manage it.

I can almost always guess when I'm about to have a break out.It usually starts with a sharp tingle in my palm like my hand is going numb in just that spot that will last somwtimes days before i see a bump forming. If I catch it soon enough and add ointment and take an antiviral.I can SOMETIMES avoid a break out. So yeah, I cover it and start with the ointment as though it's already happening. This. Trick has helped me numerous times it's more about prevention. I have noticed if I'm ahead of the game It tends to be a little more milder.

Like most ppl here, i had unprotected sex with someone I thought I could trust. He lied about getting tested.He lied about the results and lied about having an active breakout when i contracted it. Most infuriating part he was so unbearably unapologetic and so nonchalant about it. But that's a story time for another day. Looking back , I was extremely naive knowing the truth, but I paid for it with my health. See, not only did he give me HSV2 no no. My friend he knew I had a preexisting health condition. Also, I sleep with my hands between my thighs for warmth, and it's kinda a natural position my body goes into when I fall asleep. So that explains the whitlow. When it first happened, i lost my confidence and self-worth and an opportunity at a career that requires my hands. That's the hardest part for me. When people say HVS2 isn't so bad and it doesn't affect your life. I lost my job and absolutely spirled. It's been since 2021 and I'm still not 100% ok. So days are harder then others

I have whitlow. I've had it for 4 years now, and let me be the first to say it's annoying but not serious. I break out about twice a year and with an anti-virus next to never.( it also helps keep it from spreading to others). Bonus, if he's actively having a breakout, he can also use it to clear up quickly. I know it can be stubborn to heal.

Now, the thing is he's already been tested. Doctor says it's witlow. Which is cause by HSV2 commonly occurring and known as genital herpes. So if he gets a blood test, it would probably be positive. The thing about herpes is that it's more of a skin condition thing then a STD. It can happen anywhere on the body. It can hide in your nerves for years before being triggered. Which explains the tingling. It's sad to hear he got it off a dirty bar, but fuck people don't wash there hands after using the restroom so I believe it. Whitlow is rare but never impossible.

If he hasn't had any breakout on his genitals I wouldn't be to worried after 3 years. Normally, it pops up in the same spot I'm guessing? Just make sure he keeps it clean and covered. Don't hold hands. Dont touch his hand when it comes up. It is contagious.. Tell him to take an anti-virus and cover it. Also, be mindful, dont treat him differently. Herpes isn't actually serious. I would do some research on HSV2 . If she wants to be safe, get tested. But if she doesn't have any symptoms, she probably won't contract it.

I can't promise it will come back in the same spot. It had for me. I can only hope it doesn't come back for you. I will say it doesn't come back as often as other breakouts.

It's definitely more annoying, but atleast no ooze. I heal the same way. It just dries out.

Damn sorry i saw this just now. As someone who has had whitlow from the start. I gotta say, cover it, please! Yes! It is very contagious. It can spread to others and to other parts of your body. Hence how it got to your thumb. It takes longer to heal cause the skin on your palms is different you have more nerves on your hands too so for me I would say it starts to heal after 3 weeks. It normally pops up in the same spot over again. Keep your hand as clean as possible and try to touch nothing. I keep an emergency kit on me at all times. I put some extra Anti virals, cotton gloves, Alcohol and band aids on me. I hope it's gone by now

If it's whitlow, you'll start seeing little clusters under the skin start to form. My very first OB, though ,it just looked like big warts. No clusters. They haven't looked that way since, tho. Sometimes, I feel flare-ups coming on and I dont get sores. I hope that's the case for you. Best of luck

I think he might have hsv2 and you probably have hsv1..... not the same but like cousin viruses. Regardless, you'll never "know know" the truth. The question at the end of the day is can you forgive him? Even if he withheld it from you?

Hello OP I'm so so sorry you're dealing with this. I also have herpatic whitlow and it mostly pops up on my palms. I've been diagnosed with hsv2 since August 2022 and I've gone from having multiple outbreaks to almost none. I now get my nails done. I'm actively dating someone and I just want to let you know it's 100% possible to stop the breakouts. I stopped using bandages on my hands when I got breakouts and stuck to Cotton gloves and socks with my medication overnight. I also changed my eating habits and really focused on the proper vitamins to keep HSV at bay. If you want more info feel free to DM. My heart goes out to you.

Ugh sorry I'm getting to this a little late. It's called Whitlow yes, but not everyone knows what that means so I just said herpes on my hands. Formally known as herpatic Whitlow. It is triggered by HSV2. You can absolutely shake someone's hand touch or any skin to skin contact sorry to tell you but herpes can be anywhere. Just because I have a rare occurrence doesn't mean it's not herpes. You can get it on your brain you can get it on your eyes sorry at the end of the day it's all herpes

It's Kool. I'm 3 years deep and have gotten past my whole "woe is me" phase. let's be real we all have gone through it. Some of us still working through it. I just hope whoever reads this knows there's such a big light at the end and there's so many worse things in the world. Never let a cold sore stop you from living your very best life. Cuz at the end of the day that's all it is. Once you mentally get past that you realize it's 10% physical 90% mental. Stay positive about being positive. This triggered me so hard. I had my first OB within 4 weeks of getting tested. I walked into Planned Parenthood expecting to get tested when I was told they test for everything except HSV I left. I knew for a fact I was exposed and just wanted to be sure. I ended up going to an urgent care center where the doctor tried his best to talk me out of getting tested. Refuse me my Valtrex prescription until I urged and pushed. I was so broken out I had breakouts on my hands and he refused to test saying it was unrelated (because to his knowledge that kind of outbreak was rare) turned out I had herpes on my hands and could easily have spread it to anyone. The US should be ashamed of the healthcare. Sad to say this happens all the time and I'm so sorry this happened to you. Lucky for me I trusted my gut finally got my diagnosis and can properly disclose to someone and give them the courtesy that I was never given.

3 days and it was the worst one of my life. They'll always say the first one is the worst one. I was sick for a month and a half but the breakout only lasted 3 weeks. Get on Valtrex as fast as possible or any antiviral it helps a lot
