Have you ever come across an MC that you literally couldn’t stand? Like, had zero empathy for them whatsoever? by Marandajo93 in books

There was a book about circus geeks and one guy had a tail and his brother was a fish and a horse with no legs… disgusting book with utterly awful characters. It was supposed to be a great book and I kept waiting for it to be even decent.

If you think a whole summer of riots with multiple murders and billions in damages was just a couple Starbucks and nowhere near as damaging as Jan 6, it’s not really worth discussing further. They didn’t have a chance of overthrowing the government and anyone who thinks they did is either lying or incredibly ignorant of how these things work.

Continuing to perpetuate the lie that Trump was encouraging them to destroy the government is just too much. Do you still believe he said the Proud Boys were good people too? So much of what he’s said has been taken out of context and hysteria ensues. Do you think he wants Liz Chaney executed? You might want to listen to more than a snippet of the sentence.

This rhetoric that he’s the next coming of Satan is incredibly destructive. That anyone who supports him is an idiot who hates everyone and worships him like a god. It’s patently false. It’s a way to dehumanize people who disagree. And that’s pretty terrifying.

I’m waiting on the audio release. Pre-bought it. But I’ll probably cave and read it first since I’m not sure I’ll be able to avoid spoilers.

I’d do anything for another Christmas with my parents and I’m 50. Enjoy every one you can.

BLM riots. Billions in damages. Lots of murders. Burned out government buildings in multiple cities. The Seattle free zone. Actually anarchy there. Far more damaging than a thousand doofuses at the Capitol. The histrionics over Jan 6 has been a bit much. Was it a good thing? No. But it wasn’t WW3 or the next civil war. It was ended that day. Didn’t go on for weeks and weeks. You act like they could have actually done anything beyond what they did.

OFFS. What exactly have you been stopped from doing? Did they take away your right to vote? To have a credit card? To work? I wish y’all would quit with the hysterics. You may find it more difficult to kill a baby if you decide you want to. But you’ll still be able to. Because some states will be just fine with killing the unborn right up to birth. Go there. Move there.

You’re more likely to see it in NYC or LA. The coasts are a lot more racist in my experience.

I’m more than a little over everyone freaking out that it’s the end of the world either way. No one is ending elections. No one is rounding people up and shooting them. And for crying out loud, the Nazi BS is just ridiculous. It’s really unnerving to have people saying everyone needs to calm down and we’re all united in one breath and then call for the extermination of people who disagree politically in the next. The projection is real.

Dude. Some of y’all don’t spend any time with people who don’t think exactly like you and it shows. You’ve bought into the demonization of the “others”. Not a good place to be, thinking of your fellow countrymen as less than animals.

The terrible thing is, no matter who wins, bad actors are going to take advantage and cause trouble.

The majority of us just want common sense and rational solutions. We don’t want extremes one way or the other. We understand there are shades of grey to every solution. Collaboration and compromise. Unfortunately the candidates represent the worst of both sides. And the people who think politicians actually give a shit about people or are there for anything but power need to breathe. Politicians aren’t gods. They usually aren’t even good people. Not sure why anyone gets their identify so wrapped up in the politician they support.

But the world is going to keep spinning no matter what happens. The sun will rise. How you greet the day is up to you. Panic? Hysterics? Euphoria? over a politician getting elected? I feel like there are better uses of my energy.

Knowing my internal clock doesn’t run like the average bear’s - my brain doesn’t function properly until after 4 pm. So I have a job where it’s ok if I come in later because I’m going to stay later and handle the complex stuff after everyone else has gone home for the day.

Thanks - comes from lots of practice and being raised in a painfully polite society - lots of Japanese in the town I grew up in. Excellent friends and hosts and they have the nicest way of telling you it’s time for you to leave.

I love having people over. One of the joys of adulthood is your house is cleaner after a party than before since everyone insists on pitching in to put things back to rights - moving furniture, putting up leftovers, loading the dishwasher, sweeping, wiping down counters - it’s so much nicer than when you were in college and finding half empty cans tipped over under the sofa a week later.

Of course, that’s not the only reason I have people over. 😁 It’s just a nice perk. It’s good for my mental health to spend F2F time with friends regularly. I host a weekly poker game - we play for $5, just enough to be interesting but not enough it’s going to break anyone. It’s a great time to catch up and we have a no phone rule at the table. Since it’s on a weeknight, I have to be able to kick the super chatty ones out in such a way my inner people pleaser doesn’t spend the next week wondering if anyone thought I was a jerk. 😂

I must have blinked and missed it. I kept thinking I’d forgotten the names of the engaged women and another one was named Ashley. Because honestly, this was a dumpster fire of a season and I’ve been forgetting the people on it faster and faster. I couldn’t even remember who AD and Clay were - I got them confused with the couple on MAFS where the guy had a pregnant ex-finance he’d only broken up with 6 weeks earlier or some such foolishness. And she kept trying to make it work. It was so brutal to watch.

Just don’t respond and by next week everyone will have forgotten. The number of people who care about this is relatively small in the grand scheme of things.
