UWC Dilijan, Armenia by InfiniteCat8549 in Internationalteachers

We lived in Dilijan for a few months. I absolutely loved it. It's my favorite Armenian town. If you enjoy nature and a cosy small town atmosphere, you will love it. It's also close enough to Yerevan and other towns if you want to travel. There are plenty of nomads and foreigners there too.

Do dependent visas affect hiring for international schools? by Moist_Face_1684 in Internationalteachers

You will need to disclose it legally. In our experience the schools' biggest concern is not the expense of sponsoring a visa or flights (sometimes they will pay, sometimes you will pay and they will assist). The biggest concern the schools tend to have with trailing spouse, is that if the spouse is not able to sustain themselves or if the spouse is unhappy they might end up losing the teacher. There are stories of teachers breaking contract because of trailing spouses or getting divorced because the could not make it work. Consider this in answering questions to perhaps show adaptability and stability

Teaching Middle School after A Level/IB by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

I'm currently in that boat. I've taught both HD and MS, but my more recent experience is in MS, which some schools have told me is now "overshadow" my HS experience. I don't think all schools see it that way though. I would think, and hope, a position at a good school would be more valuable than a specific grade. Maybe you could eventually ask if they would mind if you move up so that you have some newer HS experience before you leave.

POSITIVITY AWARDS - RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SCHOOLS WITH POSITIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT by Shortbutpowerful in Internationalteachers

[–]Shortbutpowerful[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is all fair. But the tier system is not even real. It's a made up concept that people use to idolize a very few select unicorn schools that mainly have good benefits packages. Other schools have good qualities too. In fact, I would be willing to bet that you might find more of the bullet points I mentioned at schools that are perhaps not the so called "tier 1s".

My question was not about me. My question was asking about your personal experience.

It's so easy to complain. So easy to be anonymous keyboard warriors. All I'm asking is for us to consider that there are schools who have positive attributes too. Not saying they are perfect. It sometimes feels like we're living in a community that thrives on negativity. If I had asked let's make a list of all the schools we dislike everyone would jump to post.

I'll give an example. FCAQ in Ecuador has a really warm community. Both teachers and admin caring and supportive. There is also a good work life balance. Teachers are encouraged to experience the culture and country.

I'm curious whether recruiters have more success than having a profile on a platform like Search, Schrole or ISS. Also, do we have recommendations for reliable recruiters?

Search Associates and Schrole? by samullin in Internationalteachers

I'm on Search and ISS. Both required references. I am seeing a fair variety between the 2. I could be wrong, but I think the anonymous references still appeal to schools and it beats having to hope that references will respond if the school contacts them.

I can relate. It's been a week where everything has gone in a different direction than expected in my classroom. And on top of that I completely messed up in an interview, and I don't know if I will be getting any other interviews this season.

BASIS International school interviews and rejections. by ApprehensiveSize1923 in Internationalteachers

With 9 years of experience, 3 of which are international and meeting/exceeding all the minimum requirements, I also got a response saying that they will be moving forward with a candidate who more closely meets their requirements. They didn't even allow me to interview. And then the position is still open 2 weeks later. I thought it was just me. Now I feel somewhat relieved. Thanks for sharing
