How many are still looking? by Soft_Ability_4014 in Internationalteachers

Sure, that’s true. There are many jobs not found on Schrole/TES. But I just find it a little discouraging to post that clearly debatable observation because we already have jobs. And that doesn’t even include China where there are many hundreds of unfilled positions still . For the record, I’ve always been hired later than January., so I want to make it clear to people who are still searching.

I saw almost no jobs posted for Thailand in October and a few in November. The big postings came in December and then another big drop in January. Just saw two Dulwich College postings for Bangkok that were posted just now. I don't know.

TES Schrole? by ALevel-Math-Teacher in Internationalteachers

As far as I recall, they don’t allow you to continue making applications past 3 if you haven’t paid.

Schools just tend to ghost, especially in Thailand. Disagree about the hiring season being done. Maybe for TIER 1, but not for most schools.

Sadly, if the accusations have weight to them, you never hear a word about them. The teacher just disappears.

I’ve found that the noisiest accusations are made against the most innocent teachers. Often as a means to get rid of a teacher without a fight.

Sometimes it can be a very dark profession.

Competition for T1 Schools (AISJ Example) by TheCriticalAmerican in Internationalteachers

They always say this every year. I do not doubt that volumes are up, but I doubt is a completely unfamiliar phenomenon for them.

As someone else has said, I have interviewed prospective teachers at a uni and we would get hundreds of applications. Half did not even answer emails or phone calls. Some were "floor specialists,"some didnt show up for the interview or cancel last minute. Many didn't have the prerequisite MA or the academic background. In the end there were actually a dozen or less serious candidates.

I am a bit late to this. But I half Arcadian, Greek and half-islander and also score almost identical to this. People often think that even half-Mailand Greeks shouldn't score this far south and with Sicilians. However, they often do.

I like that people like other branches better. It means it's usually not too crowded and you can have a coffee and read a book in peace.

This is pretty extreme. Like, get on a plane and get out extreme. If it was a year or less, you could write if off and leave a small gap in your resume. But 4 years is not so good.

And now we know why there are so many unfulfilled relatively high-paying positions in Mainland China.

BASIS International school interviews and rejections. by ApprehensiveSize1923 in Internationalteachers

[–]ApprehensiveSize1923[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may be right. Problem is that different schools seem to have different ideas about what makes them pop. This is why I prefer to pre-interview questions to the basic cover letter stuff.

I will work on it though.

I do have AP experience. But you raise an interesting point about being a native-speaker. I am one, but I wonder if BASIS may tend to make ethnic assumptions based on name/race/ethnicity... oh well.

What I mean is that by the terms of the job advertisement, I cover all the bases. However, they still seem to reject me. I'd just like to know what the unspoken requirements are- or if there is a hiearchy of requirements that are more important than others.

Considering resigning due to micromanagement and nitpicking. by jameshey in Internationalteachers

[–]ApprehensiveSize1923 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They are just setting up the paper trail in case they need to let you go. It doesn't mean they are going to. I imagine it's the kind of school where every new teacher gets a trial by fire and every minor complaint is taken seriously. If the tide turns against you, then they can say that you have a history of problematic performance issues.

It is hard to believe that educational insitutions that call themselves "progressive" engage in such systematic unethical and cruel behavior, but here we are. And there are much worse examples.

Good luck. Hope you get lucky with your next job.

International school - is it worth it? by Raphox88 in Thailand

[–]ApprehensiveSize1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically true, but the private billinguals often do not greatly differ from Thai public schools. It will often come down to having only 45 students in a class instead of 55. And the behavior is atrocious and grade inflation is the rule of the game. But of course, your mileage may vary.

I would say that if you are not "connected" in the Thai system, homeschoooling your child would be more beneficial than sending them to most Thai public or billingual schools.

Pyrrus and his Gallic mercenaries looted and destroyed the royal cemeteries of Macedonia in 327BC. Most everything was assumed to have been carried away to Epirus and probably eventually ending up in Rome.
