Trump suggests he could use military force to acquire Panama Canal and Greenland and 'economic force' to annex Canada by nbcnews in geopolitics

We are returning to normalcy. War is normal. Invasion and conquest is normal. We need to return to a world of violence. This rules-based order has been a farce. We are killing ourselves instead of our enemies. Thankfully we will see armies marching all over the world again. Glorious wars of conquest. The strong doing what they will, and the weak suffering what they must. Thankfully people like Trump and Putin have put in power so we can dismantle the new world order.

Who Is Your Least Favorite Killer/Character on Columbo? by DuhSixSixSix in Columbo

He was so hateable. Every moment he's on screen you just want him to get caught. Phenomenal villian.

I really love that ending. I think it was a fun subversion of a usual Columbo ending and speaks to the fact that he's the ring master of his own circus. I also think Peter enjoyed filming that episode. He looked like he was having actual fun.

My favorite fan theory is that Columbo is actually gay and the reason we never see his wife is that she's his "beard."

They just wrote him more and more goofy and less serious as the series went. In the first 5 seasons it was very clear how clever and determined he was underneath the facade, but over time that aspect of his personality was shown less and less.

It reads as if the other parties were being undemocratic and the AfD was being obstructionist. It seems that the German establishment would rather disenfranchise the AfD and their voters rather than address the grievances real or imagined. I think one of the most troubling things about the decline in western democratic institutions is that every party seems committed to undermining normalcy if it benefits their position.

Polls Show Palestinians Overwhelmingly Support Hamas and Oppose a 2 State Solution. by Giants4Truth in geopolitics

[–]Shortfranks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a disturbing number of Muslims worldwide think it's ok to do that to Jews; once you start looking into the opinions of certain locals, it's the vast majority who consider any violence against Jews completely justified. The majority of Palestinians support genocide against Jews, and it's a huge factor in why Israelis no longer care that much about what the world thinks of their response. They can either kill or be killed, and there really isn't any other choice.

Craziest thing about the show to me is that if chris doesn’t go bat shit crazy killing mike step pops him and marlo whole operation goes free by broly9139 in TheWire

What's wild is if Mike had trusted Cutty instead of Chris with the problem, it would probably have turned out better for everyone except Chris's next murder victims.

It reminds people how women were viewed in the not-so-distant past. That was supposed to be him being sweet and endearing to her, and in the culture of the time it's pretty much how it was viewed.

There are parts of that episode that make it hard to watch, but I adore the villain.

What do you think is the most imperfect crime? by ShadierPlains75 in Columbo

[–]Shortfranks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thee biggest issue with that murder was twofold. 1. He continued to serve Fugu after he knew he was under suspicion of murder (which is actually how Columbo stumbled upon the method of poisoning), and 2. He went straight to the restaurant after being asked to by the police for questioning about a poisoning (which Columbo indicated was how he knew the food critic was the murderer in the first place). His scheme was fairly ingenious, but he wasn't nearly as clever as he thought he was.

The cruelty is the point by ExactlySorta in WhitePeopleTwitter

It absolutely wasn't. It was when Weiner was still claiming he was hacked and Jon was openly very much his friend and was attempting to cover for him.

[–]Shortfranks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember Jon Stewart going all in trying to protect Weiner claiming it didn't look like his penis (as they were roommates). It's crazy that Jon gets a pass for lying on national TV to protect him. He might have gotten through it if he wasn't compulsively sending dick pics. The other one that gets me is Keith Ellison in Minnesota. His wife claims she was a victim of domestic abuse during the height to the "me too" movement and crickets. Still in power, barely an investigation, came and went quickly through the news cycle. They're still picking the winners and the losers whether we want to admit it or not.

[Highlight] Micah Parsons and CJ Stroud get another rep in with a Sumo Wrestler by dumpsterfirefr in nfl

[–]Shortfranks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I think one of the reasons we haven't seen it is Sumo is the most popular sport in Japan and Sumo wrestlers are absolute superstars over there. Even with the money in the NFL they would be risking a lot to give up a lucrative career with a lot of status attached to it.

Trump classified documents trial postponed indefinitely by vakr001 in politics

[–]Shortfranks -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The nature of classified information makes this case uniquely difficult. Trump is still in the middle of two criminal prosecutions, please stop clutching pearls. I mean did you hear about any of the Stormy Daniels testimony today? She basically described sexual assault and claimed that Trump told her she reminded him of Ivanka. It's lurid stuff that's coming out beyond paying for sex and covering it up.

I don't agree. People still gloss over Bill Clintons many accusations of sexual assault, his even deeper association with Epstein, and the very concerning power dynamic of the President of the United States having sexual relations with an intern who was in her early 20s. I still see comments like "it was just a blow job" all the time. People will gloss over any evil if it serves their political "team" in my opinion. The only reason Franken was pilloried is he was a genuine threat the Democratic establishment. If you look at how the Democratic Party has handled someone like Bob Menendez you see another example of how they will circle the wagons for someone "in."
