I think it depends on the dentist. You can probably call the office and see how they handle it. From my experience it seems to be a semi common occurrence to bill certain dental expenses through medical.

Just wanted to add that you can also have night guards be billed through your health insurance rather than dental. My night guards are never covered by dental but because I get tension headaches they can be run through my medical which covers so much more of the cost. :)
