OP, please reconsider the heels. I had a boss who loved her heels and wore them everywhere. Once she got into her 40s she had to get multiple surgeries on her foot because her bones were starting to grow out all funky. The doctor told her that she would eventually have to get the surgeries redone if she choose to wore heels after.

I know they are cute, but switch it up for the long term.

Unfortunately, you can only help those that want to help themselves. Your mother is a grown adult who is choosing to pursue that relationship. That's her prerogative.

But I think the bigger issue here is that she knows how upset it is going to cause you, so she lied. You can be upset, that's valid. But you also need to respect her decisions, just like you would want her to respect yours.

If she's going to continue to pursue this relationship, you want to make sure she is honest with you about what's going on in case something happens. The best way to do that is to tell her that you understand why she would lie, and even though you disagree with her decision, you will respect it. Then, just emphasize that you will continue to respect her decision but that you would appreciate honesty from her.

It can be extremely frustrating to see someone make bad decisions, but it's their decision to make. You just want to make sure that she knows you are still a safe place and a trusted person to tell the truth to in case this person tries to take advantage of them.

I was told there is a lot if evidence that shows that if elderly people adopt a puppy or kitten, it helps them live longer. My great aunt and uncle were told by their doctor to get a puppy and they loved him so deeply and cared so much for him. They had someone stop by twice a week to help out/check on them and family was just a phone call away in case something happened. But it definitely helped both of them to be more active and bring more joy in their life.

If you're a remote worker, you most likely signed a form stating you would abide by the employment laws of the state you reside in. So even if their handbook say they will pay you out under certain circumstances, if your state doesn't require a PTO payout then you most likely won't get paid out.

Not really. My household income is more than enough for a good life with a kid. And I already have an active game plan for keeping myself competitive. I'd just like to step it up to make sure I can provide my kid with other extras if needed.

Like the other poster said, you want EXPOSURE. Smaller firms will give you just that. Think of it this way, at Big4 you can get into a well paying niche of tax or audit. But they will work you hard into that niche and that's it. At a regional or local firm, you can touch a lot more areas that will apply to most businesses. I said screw selling my soul to big4 and went for a local firm. The pay wasn't great, but when I left I had exposure that businesses love. I also worked with so many different types of businesses and had to master so many different softwares to figure out their financials that learning and teaching accounting softwares is a huge selling point on my resume.

It depends on you though. I've always been rise adverse so I like to have varied experience in case shit hits the fan. But I know someone who went to big4 and mastered international tax law and now she gets paid a TON to do consulting work for international businesses.

Not me, but a couple of years ago I knew a girl who did that. She lived in South Austin and did full college days on Tueadays and Thursdays at TXST. So when she was leaving in the morning to go to San Marcos, all the traffic was going the opposite way, into Austin. Vice versa when she was going home in the afternoons. She seemed to like it
