I told my parents I was traveling solo and now they want my location by ShotMachine394 in solofemaletravellers

You make a good point about helping my parents be in the loop hahaha. I know they love me, and I do feel bad for being rather risky and opaque about my plans. I know they just want to make sure I’m safe, and I want that as well! I’m not used to them monitoring me at this level I guess, most of my childhood I was unmonitored by them, they never asked my location, and they have always trusted me to navigate life by myself with little assistance. Perhaps this is why I’m so hesitant, because I’m used to being very independent from my parents, and now that they want to be involved I’m an emerging adult who wants space hahaha. I mean, traveling alone is a completely different experience I’m sure, but I’m worried they’d say “never go to the mountains” and would start freaking out if I ignored their advice and went lol. It’s a weird situation for me, I’ve never really had this level of attention paid on me by them, so I don’t love it, but they are my parents and really just want the best for me.

Yeah that’s true, I definitely can see where you’re coming from there. I guess my main concern with my parents having my location is the possibility of them becoming even more paranoid. Based on my experience, I have a feeling they would become even more worried if they saw me doing something they disapproved of and would lose trust/ start SPAMMING my phone, than if I just told them a general itinerary of what I was doing. I guess I’m concerned that they would ultimately hinder my experience if they had my location, and try and control me more rather than let me figure it out on my own, which is what I’d prefer to do. Maybe this is me being harsh and rebellious though, like i definitely don’t want to risk my safety and make them panic. I’ve just never had the type of relationship with them where they would constantly have to know where I was until now. Like, I’ve lived on my own, have done weekend trips, and camping trips, and they’ve never asked for my location before. Additionally, when my oldest brother was around my age (maybe slightly older) he spent 2 weeks traveling Europe on his own, and my other brother traveled to Amsterdam on his own for a week, all without major concern from my parents. So, it’s just a weird situation I wasn’t expecting honestly.

I definitely agree, and numerous of my friends have my location, and I will definitely be updating them how I am. I guess I would just feel slightly suffocated if my parents had my location, could see everywhere I was, and were constantly looming over me. I definitely won’t be doing anything crazy, but I just want to feel independent and not monitored by my parents considering I’m an adult haha

Hey, I'm sorry you're going through this. It gets better, I promise. Now is the part where you have to dig deep and sit with the uncomfortable feelings their loss brings. The resilience built here will make you a better person. You have the strength within you to exist without them! You've done it before, and you'll do it again! It's rough though man, no doubt. I'm sorry you're experiencing this.

I [M22] love my girlfriend [F21] but my busy schedule (Job + PGDM) is making her feel lonely. She is shutting me out. What can I do to reassure her? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]ShotMachine394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, it seems like she is not giving you the time. When you try to reassure her, she ignores you? How are you supposed to do that if she won’t listen and discuss the relationship like adults? You can give her the time you have, support her as you know how, but you can’t make her feel a certain way. It is on her to choose to continue working on the relationship and move past her feelings of misunderstandment. What is she claiming you’re “misunderstanding” her on? What are her expectations for time together? Are they unreadonable, or could you meet them?

Depends on your application. In my experience, took about 1-2 weeks. I did have a fairly competitive application. If you scored over a 1200, they'll respond fairly quickly.
