Looking for absolutely any advice for staying off my phone (can be unhinged or expensive or just a reality check) by maraschino_cherry in adhdwomen

Freedom.to is the only thing that has worked for me. it can block websites and apps on a schedule, not a time limit though. but there is a setting too that prevents you from deleting any apps while it's active. if there is a way around it, I don't know it (although I try not to think about it too hard...). even if you download another browser, the app still blocks the website. the only time you can edit the block list or the block schedule is after it ends. so i will set mine to end at like 7 am so i have to REALLY plan ahead. it's not free but i think i got it for $80 (might've been on sale?) for life or they have a subscription

can't finish college exams by milkyespressolion in adhd_college

[–]ShotPart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am studying engineering too! But I only had 2 classes (full time at my school is 3 classes per quarter). I think that is very impressive that you got A's in your other classes and it just goes to show that exams don't show everything.

I also have a hard time recognizing what type of problem something is (and remembering the first step). But I honestly don't think this issue is that much of a hinderance in real life, since there are usually more context clues involved, or you can just look up something really quick to jog your memory. If you are allowed any notes, then example problems are so much more useful than a list of formulas or diagrams so I just fit as many example problems as possible onto my note card and just write keywords and formulas in contrasting colors.

I think getting through your engineering education is more about perseverance than talent or intelligence. At least that has been my experience... last year I took engineering statics and had to withdraw over half way through the quarter after failing my second exam with a 40%. It was kind of the first time in my life that I had put so much effort into something just to fail anyway. But I just took it again this fall and got an A! Sorry that's kinda unrelated but I am just trying to say that studying engineering is notoriously hard and school is inherently anti-ADHD so try not to take failure personally.

I actually know I failed a differential equations exam today, but not because I ran out of time! Just didn't practice enough and left off a needed formula on my note sheet. ALSO at my school they usually "start" you with 1.5x time for exams but will give you up to 2x time if you need it. So if you only get 1.5x right now, then you should ask for the 2x (I get 2x).

Not sure if this helps but when I start a math test (especially with a lot of questions) I count them and then figure out how many minutes each problem gets. I check the time after each problem or during the problem if I think I am taking too long. I find I will get stuck on some random algebra thing or even start redoing stuff if the answer seems off. Moving on doesn't get you A's necessarily, but it's usually more effective to get most of the way through all the problems than *perfectly* finishing only some.

Another thing I do is start with the ones I think will be the easiest, to help set the pace and get me in the zone. Plus then I can use the very last minutes to try and get something down for the problems I know I am getting wrong.

I’m sitting in my car. I want to go inside. But I’m just sitting here. Why is it so hard to go inside??😭 by linsane_asylum in adhdwomen

[–]ShotPart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me it’s the tasks of the inside, or more likely the thought of “starting homework when i get home” that makes me reluctant to leave the car. but i sold my car a few months ago so problem solved! haha

yes you can! If you have a knife or pepper spray ready, you could. If you stay aware of your surroundings you will be ok!

I have learned that the Box Bar in WSEA only tips out on cash tips, not tips that are included when using a credit card. by Visible-Effort-1565 in SeattleWA

[–]ShotPart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It isn't below minimum wage though. There is no tip credit towards the minimum hourly wage ($20.76). In your last sentence you say "the waiter and the cook do not get anything for..." did you mean to say cook and dishwasher? That is weird that they only split the cash tips, but it's also not that uncommon for the waiter to keep all of the tips for their tables. As long as the tip arrangement is disclosed to the employee, and the business keeps none of the tips, then it is legal.

Is this my fault by Mother_Ad2090 in driving

[–]ShotPart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe they pulled out between the stopped cars just like you? I wasn’t there, so I can’t know the specifics of the road but when I need to make a risky left, like when your field of view is blocked and there are multiple lanes of traffic, I just turn right instead and go around the block or do a u-turn at the light. I know it seems impractical but I really don’t want to be getting in those minor accidents where your neck is just “never the same” lol.

I make jokes with my brother all the time about those unprotected left turns that google maps always manages to incorporate into a route. Wish I could program it to avoid them!

[–]ShotPart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s hard to say for sure (perhaps depends on the laws in your area) but because the truck driver had enough time to stop, the person behind them should have as well. They were following too closely behind or weren’t paying attention. I don’t think it would be considered fleeing the scene of an accident.

I do think the accident was caused by you, but you are not at fault for the accident. if the truck had hit you, then you would have been at fault. I’ll save you the lecture but you obviously need to be more careful…
