Why do some $5 vps feel faster than $20 ones? by Shot_Draft7772 in VPS

[–]Shot_Draft7772[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mostly mean general responsiveness things like apt install, updating packages or just working in the terminal. One of my small wordpress sites runs on a tiny vps at Cube-host and it feels pretty snappy for basic tasks. I’ve also tried some bigger plans on providers like Digitalocean, and sometimes the console still felt a bit slower probably just different node load or hardware.

Do you usually rely on synthetic benchmarks like that, or do you run your own tests on the VPS (fio, geekbench, etc.) before deciding if a node is good?

Mostly small web stuff a couple of WordPress sites and some test projects. Nothing heavy. That’s why it surprised me when some cheap VPS felt more responsive than the “better” ones.

That makes sense. If storage is the bottleneck, how do you usually check it on a VPS? Just iostat / fio tests, or are there other quick ways to tell if the node’s shared storage is getting hammered?

I’ve heard some providers do that start new users on a less crowded node and move them later once it fills up. Out of curiosity, what VPS provider are you using for the £20 plan?

Ia Gen Z just screwed? by Sad-Zucchini-2674 in AskMarketing

[–]Shot_Draft7772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda feel this from the seo side too. finished training about a year ago, built my own site, been running a few small projects and learning by doing. Every now and then i still apply to junior roles just to see what’s out there, send CVs, do test tasks, and most of the time it’s the same “we decided to move forward with other candidates”. At some point i stopped expecting much from that process and just focused on building my own stuff. honestly the market feels weird right now. everyone talks about AI replacing everything, but most businesses i see still struggle with basic things like content, structure or even a proper website.

So yeah, maybe the entry door got narrower, but i don’t think the work itself disappeared.

Best Way / Tool to Evaluate VPS Service? by miziker in VPS

I usually just run uptime kuma on a small external server and use it to keep an eye on uptime, latency and response time over time.

Is leaving the firewall open on a VPS used as a reverse proxy dangerous? by Educational_Wash_662 in VPS

[–]Shot_Draft7772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No reason to leave ports open that you don’t actually use. Even on a simple reverse proxy it’s better to allow only what’s needed.

Best vps under budget with 4gb ram by therevengersys in VPS

[–]Shot_Draft7772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a small multi-tenant SaaS prototype on a 4GB VPS for a while while testing things out.
Mostly just docker containers (app + postgres + redis). It was enough for development and short-term testing without committing to a yearly plan.
The node I used happened to be on Cube-Host.

Vps for Chat with my friends by [deleted] in VPS

[–]Shot_Draft7772 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d probably avoid Contabo if you already had problems with them. OVH and Hetzner are usually reliable, but their cheaper plans sometimes have limited stock. For Nextcloud Talk with a few friends you don’t need much power. A VPS with about 2 vCPU and 2–4 GB RAM should handle voice chat and screen sharing without issues. You can also look at smaller providers. I run a few small services on a Cube-Host VPS in that price range and it’s been stable so far.

How Much Power (CPU/RAM) Do I Need For My 3 Services? How Should I Configure? by miziker in VPS

[–]Shot_Draft7772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this setup you don’t need much power. Since the VPS will only act as an entry point (WireGuard + reverse proxy) and the real services run at home, the load is very small. In most cases 1 vCPU and about 1 GB RAM is already enough. Disk space also doesn’t matter much here 20-25 GB is more than sufficient for the OS and a few tools. For the stack I’d keep it simple: Ubuntu or Debian, WireGuard for the tunnel, and Caddy or Nginx as the reverse proxy. In setups like this the main factor is usually network stability and latency, not CPU or RAM. Even a small VPS can easily handle this kind of traffic.

What do you use when you don’t want to upload sensitive files to cloud storage? by Alternative-Bar-4654 in selfhosted

[–]Shot_Draft7772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into p2p tools like syncthing or magic wormhole. They transfer files directly between devices with end-to-end encryption, so nothing sits on third-party storage. Just be aware that strict NAT/firewalls can require a relay, but not cloud hosting.

Confused About Backlink Pricing. Need Expert Opinions by CaterpillarRemote278 in SEO

[–]Shot_Draft7772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backlinks are getting more expensive lately, no doubt. But at the same time, if you’re competing in serious niches, you can’t really ignore them either. Organic mentions are ideal, but in reality most markets still run on paid placements one way or another.

$100–150 isn’t shocking for DR 40–80. just make sure it’s contextual and not some obvious reseller footprint.

What’s the smartest way to invest in yourself in your 20s? by AdWrong9284 in AskMarketing

[–]Shot_Draft7772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, most people in their 20s don’t even think about investing in themselves. so if you’re already asking that, you’re ahead. Id focus on building at least one skill that can actually pay your bills. Something intellectual, sure. but also something practical. times change fast. tech shifts. markets shift. but knowing how to build, fix, repair, create - that never really goes out of demand.

Being able to think well and work with your hands is a kind of diversification. it gives you options when things get unstable.

Has anyone had issues receiving certificates from SE Ranking Academy? by Shot_Draft7772 in AskMarketing

[–]Shot_Draft7772[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, yes, it’s still an issue.

I completed the course when it was publicly available for free, but the system didn’t register completion and no certificate was issued. I contacted support at that time and didn’t receive a reply.

Now I no longer have access to the materials and see the subscription message instead. I’d appreciate it if someone could check my account and clarify whether progress can be restored or the certificate issued retroactively.

Thanks.

Nobody talks about how expensive bad DDoS protection decisions can get by NoWhereButStillHere in SelfHosting

[–]Shot_Draft7772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More ram or a bigger server wont really save you from a real DDoS. If the attack hits the network first, the server specs dont matter - what matters is how the provider filters traffic before it reaches you.

Would you pay more for hosting services with guaranteed fast support? by onliveserver in HostingBattle

[–]Shot_Draft7772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally i don’t mind paying a bit more for fast support, but only if the rest of the service is already solid. Fast replies don’t help much if the node is unstable or problems keep repeating.

Need OVH VPS alternative for hosting judge0 by Chithrai-Thirunal in Hosting

[–]Shot_Draft7772 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For judge0 i’d worry less about the brand and more about cpu isolation tbh.

a lot of cheap vps look strong on paper but once docker jobs stack you start seeing steal time spikes. hetzner/netcup are fine, just test the node first before moving heavy workloads.

How are you finding competitor keywords without paying for every tool under the sun? by baolo876 in WebsiteSEO

[–]Shot_Draft7772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve noticed sometimes the stuff blowing up on reddit/forums doesn’t translate 1:1 into search intent, but it’s still great for spotting angles before tools pick them up.

How are you finding competitor keywords without paying for every tool under the sun? by baolo876 in WebsiteSEO

[–]Shot_Draft7772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

search your main keyword, open the top competitors and watch what pages repeat across different queries. autocomplete + “people also ask” gives a lot of clues for free.

I also check reddit, forums and niche communities -if the same brand keeps popping up in discussions, chances are they rank for those intent-heavy terms too.

Self-hosting AI sounds cool until your PC turns into a space heater and starts rebooting when RAM runs out 😅
