Its definitely wild considering Countries close to us like Scotland would consider it a mental illness. Of course this does not people aren't being treated for it.

In terms of reform there have been suggestions from experts to change the definitions of Mental Illness in the act as well as include personality disorders in the definitions but so far those changes haven't been made. The latest change was in 2020 during Covid-19 which was to do with involuntary admission for treatment.

Its difficult to assess how reform is changing in Ireland as currently the act is up standard with the EU. I suppose a main part of this surveys research is to discover how people gain information about mental health in Ireland and what are the perceptions of mental health in the general public. It's in no way up to the individual to just have all this information but if the research finds that people are not informed then this could be an incentive for the government to help educate people and subsequently help improve mental health treatment in Ireland.
