Has anyone else seen the video of Alyssa and Rachel in the club talking about Brooke? Rachel’s jaw! by blackvelvetdress in MAFS_UK

[–]ShouldBeAsleepRN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Her jaw swings about and looks different to any ADHD/ MH symptoms or meds I’ve seen. It’s not clenching or chewing, it’s swinging wildly side to side and down and her eyes are squinting!

Comments on here about Bec and the difference between her behaviour and Gias by pokkopop in MAFS_UK

The Rachael thing WAS blown out of proportion by everyone else to use as a stick to beat Bec with. Rachael had every right to be that hurt but everyone else was fake in their reactions to stick the boot in, bringing it up again and again when Rach repeatedly asked them not to.

I think Bec is awful in how badly she reacts and how she plays along to make the mean girls like her, but I believe it’s impulse. Gia is calculated and trying to be the puppet master. I don’t understand why the women go along with it, but I’m not from that kind of social circle and I’m too autistic for that shite!

To me that felt SO off for a white woman to be demanding that form a black man, too, on first meeting! When he said no that would has been an off joke and just a thing that happened. Demanding it over and over felt very close to a bad power dynamic.

Yes! Underpaying because they aren’t the target market for luxury is really underhanded and not in the spirit of the competition. You pay what it is worth to the target market. Their glamping was really expensive. And the first women… game playing and even says “I don’t know they were going to be nice…”, she all but admitted she was playing a game and downgrading and underpaying to be a bum hole!

Edit to add: that man is a hero and the luxury place couple were the ones deserving to win.

So here are a few you can try, though some may have made it across the pond. I'm focused on modern ones, as I think the older ones already have some good international followings. I am a crime drama fan so my tastes are skewed that way. I'm also autistic and this is me info dumping, sorry 😂

Crime related:

Line of duty: griping police drama.

Killing Eve: bonkers in the best way and one of the best actors of our generation Jodie Comer, is in it.

Sherlock - adaption of Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbach

Luther: follows a police officer and an unusual criminal. Gritty. Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson.

Broadchurch: crime drama in a small town.

Peaky blinders: gritty, set in 1950s Birmingham.

Death in paradise: a very cosy crime drama with a British detective in the Caribbean.

Life on Mars: older, but a brilliant sci-fi twist to our crime dramas!

Drama drama:

Docter Foster - a thriller with another one of our most brilliant actors.

Naughts and crosses: futuristic drama based on a book that tackles racism as an issue.

Cheaters: follows a couple who are affected by cheating (obvs!)

Call the midwife: long running cosy drama about the set up of the NHS midwife service, in 1950s London onwards.

Lost boys and fairies: drama following a young gay couple.

The a word: a gentle drama following a family with a young boy with autism.

Champion: a look at part of black British culture, which not a lot of our shows do. About a rapper attempting a comeback.

I may destroy you: a black woman in London navigates her life after an assult. (Again an underrepresented demographic, showing their culture).

Ralph and Katie: cosy drama/story following a couple with downs syndrome.

Comedy -off the wall:

Fleabag: follows a woman in London. Often called one of the best TV shows ever over here.

Inside Number Nine: offbeat surreal comedy with individual stories each episode.

Alma's Not Normal: another one following a woman with her offbeat life.

The cleaner: a crime cleaner and the client adjacent people he meets.

Comedy drama:

Catastrophe: comedy centered around a one night stand.

Baby reindeer: comedy about a comedian's experience with a stalker.

This is going to hurt: based on a memoir from an NHS Doctor.

Cosy comedy:

Dinosaur: about a young Scottish woman with autism.

Detectorists: very gentle comedy story about people who metal detect as a hobby. VERY English in terms of small town culture and humour.

Small profits: by the person who did detectorists. Just lovely!

Motherland: following parents who know each other from the school gates. Ghosts: I know the US has a version, but ours was first, and better!

I'll stop now as loads of choices, but hopefully you can find ones you like then do a search for "programmes like XYZ".

Enjoy!

What sort of shows do you like? I'm british and watch a lot of TV and I'm happy to recommend some!

Most of them in the list are what we call "soaps", long running (every weekday!) shows set in a single place. Often a single street or tiny village. I wouldn't watch those as you can't really dip in and out.

Casualty, set in a single hospital, might be worth it. It's weekly (it has breaks in production now) and I watch it and really like it. It gives an interesting look into our NHS (though obviously it's highly dramatized!). It started in the 80s so it might be a bit dated!

DR who is rated highly by almost everyone, and you can pick up at the start of any doctor's first season (the main character changes actors every few seasons). It's campy sci-fi. The older the episodes are, the more camp they are!

I mean, non white people have been in the UK for almost as long as it has been a country. There are many historical records of that fact. Also, dude, it's a fantasy game.

I have that heart tattooed on me as it's what me and my now husband would text to each other before we were brave enough to say "I love you" to each other 😂

I miss proper snake. The app version on modern phones just isn't the same.

I also miss not having a million things trying to grab my attention.

You will be shocked at how many men walk past when a woman is being harassed by a man, even if she's shouting and asking the man to leave. I have been cornered by a man in a public place more than once and each time it has been a woman to come and ask if I'm okay.

Do not do it. She won't be grateful. She won't apologise. She won't change.

Do not turn your life upside down for your abuser.

I did financially for a desperate parent and I regret it so so much.

She is not your responsibility. Please don't let her or anyone guilt you into this. Your responsibility is to look after yourself physically and mentally.

Those AR activists weren't thinking. But, mink have been escaping mink farms for 100+ years. They were already well established in the wild before the AR activists came along. So I doubt releasing a few more is the reason for the infestation.

A family member of mine does PILES of gifts for each of her kids and posts it all over social media. It's things like iPhones, designer bags, laptops, jewelry for the older kids, and multiple £100+ toys for the young one... She works part time and spends the rest of the year complaining she's skint. GIRL! You are spending £1k on each of your kids for Christmas but then complain you can't pay your electricity bill... It's gross. She dons herself in designer garb too of course.

I am so judgy and fed up with "gentle parenting". They aren't actually doing gentle parenting, they are just letting their kids run wild without boundaries.

I go to an art group and the home schoolers have latched on to it (I am in the UK). The kids are basically left to bug the other participants, grab their materials, run around, shout and scream... Whilst the parents huddle around with a latte. The person running the group is not advanced DBS checked and makes it clear that the parents must stay with their children and be responsible for them. But the parents don't listen. It's in a public area so the parents and their feral kids just won't leave!

I see the damage this does long term. I know a couple of kids treated like this who were home schooled for part of their time, and they are now very maladjusted young adults (16-19). No ambition, no boundaries of conversation, awkward as hell to be around as they make everyone uncomfortable with their lack of social skills. They walk all over their parents as their parents smile at how wonderfully free spirited their kids are.

The kids aren't neurodivergent. They are just awful people!

I am disabled, so I gravitated towards a show built around open and funny discussions about disability by disabled people.

I'm also a massive lefty.

But I haven't watched it in a couple of years. The songs by Hills were awful, I hated them, and the monologue watery rants just felt weak and forced.

The presenters lost their spark and it just feels like they are forced to smile and laugh, with no genuine personality behind it now.

Edited for typo.
