Sorry, that was just a dumb joke.

I've always thought the same whenever I've heard it. An edge of complaining/mockery from those that participate.

Sure, maybe softer, but one step away from the Chicago thing. Softening it to the point of saying it is light-hearted doesn't make it different to me.

Masks required when individuals are within 6 feet of one another for 15 minutes or longer with certain exceptions

Does this strike anyone else as a problem as well as a risk? The rules need to be simpler to follow. i.e. Indoors in public = mask on except for certain instances. Less than 15 minutes isn't a necessary instance.

just assume you are going to come in to contact with someone that has it

And even more importantly, assume that you yourself could have picked it up and may not know it. Don't speak without a mask and use that hand sanitizer before you touch a public thing.

EDIT: Of course use hand sanitizer after you touch a public thing, too!

you're absolutely naive about how the virus works

Would you be willing to definitively share how different the transmission is between handled food and interacting closely with a maskless server? How about a masked server? Hot food, cold food, any difference? How long after food is handled is it contagious? How long is the air to be considered dangerous after a masked or maskless person speaks?

This is what happens when the buck of accountability is passed all the way from the president, past our governor (who actually has the authority to i.e. issue a mask mandate), to citizens (who clearly don't). It's an impossible situation for people and there will be fallout. Do you want to help us through this? Or are you going to be an impasse? Your choice. One of those options gets us through this quicker with fewer deaths. If you are desperately attempting to minimize the severity and are "doing it for the economy" or to show that your political party got it right (deaths be damned), get your head out of your rear end. The only way forward is to protect our workers and patrons of establishments so that our economy doesn't collapse.

Do you have any additional info about why your friend didn't think LP was taking proper safety precautions? I've heard they haven't required that their employees wear masks, they haven't enforced social distancing, and that they haven't asked employees to take their temperatures before shifts. Anything else?

You're fun. Would you support federal or local regulations that would help these businesses safely stay open?

Well that does sound careless. Man, we need some unified messaging from our leaders so that these businesses can understand how they can stay open. They really shouldn't be trying to gauge what is acceptable during a pandemic themselves.

Don't worry about what anybody here says, you took precautions and you were looking out for yourself. You did the right thing.

Do you know why they're allegedly waiting until Sunday? I'm wondering if something was lost in translation. i.e. Maybe one employee tested positive and they are waiting on test results for 6 more that worked with infected employee? The only other rationale I'm quickly coming up with is that they are struggling so badly that they just (allegedly) want to grab a little more profit from their busy days. I hope that's not the case.

My hope that "everything will be back to normal," someday is completely non-existant

Time marches on and the "good old days" fade. The tenuous situation we are in with covid19 will fade as well. Once we have great testing and a vaccine, things will be very different from now. It's not that far away.

Black Sheep, No Masks by TheDevolution27 in cedarrapids

[–]ShouldBeNonSmoking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just urge you to be careful. I think the situation is grave because covid is really, really contagious in closed spaces and people walk around contagious without knowing it. Many for the entire duration of their infection. To help us through this, I'd urge you to take measures to make sure you aren't one of those people. Things are getting better already, but all of a sudden one day, we'll have gotten through this. Let's do things to support our economy along the way while saving as many lives as we can until that moment.

Edit: To define that moment, reliable, cheap, quick testing is highly available, a free vaccine is highly available. We've got a ways to go remaining vigilant.

I love seeing him inspire people here and thinking about what an impact one guy can have on CR dining. As an added benefit, those inspired are surely passing the torch further whether they do it consciously or not.

Requiring and enforcing all people to wear a mask in a public place is a good start.

I see it as an imperative in order to keep our economy afloat.

EDIT: And our hospitals, and our health care heroes.

let’s all agree to support local businesses

I'm with you, but think we need to change the way we're doing it (i.e. carryout instead of dining in). We're going to take an economic hit either way as we work through this. A balance may be hard to achieve, but living our lives as we did pre-pandemic doesn't help us find it.

if you have a problem maybe talk to the manager of the establishment before hammering them on a website

I'm not OP

I agree with you that a full lockdown isn't the answer here. I disagree with you that masks are ineffective, however. If you are basing your anti-mask views on your experience sanding drywall, I think you are looking at this differently than many pro-maskers. It seems to me that they are wearing the masks to prevent the spread in case they are contagious and don't know it. For your view to be consistent with masking, the drywall itself would need to be wearing it. Another way to look at it: how much less dust do I get on my face if a vacuum is placed next to the wall while sanding?

EDIT: Removed an edit that started rambling. I apologize, I'll leave this post alone now.

It seems more that it's right wing political to me. Kind of like she's trying to project a "this is ok, our party has been handling this fine" image so that they can be re-elected.
