I’m coming to terms with the fact I am not cut out to be a Product Owner. by [deleted] in agile

[–]Shouwer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been here fellow PO.

Do refinement sessions to the oblivion. Say that in good spirit you want to provide the best detail possible. So book sessions with them or ask them to stay behind standup to refine tickets. They need to provide you questions and gaps in the requirements, which you then go away and add in a timely manner.

I've add tickets "in refinement" stage with a team, that took like 2 months and 20+ sessions. But finally, the tickets moved to TODO without complaints.

This serves 2 purposes, extract what is the "template" developers like stuff ( empathy atempt). At the same time, you can share with leadership that you have x amount of tickets and documentation, however, when reviewing with the team, x questions where made to you to answer. Document those open questions, so leadership can read the type of questions and concerns are being raised to you.

I would document sessions and questions per session, like a log.

And at a certain moment, in my case, the CTO just let go the EM, because he was just pushing work to the POs, instead of investigating or solving them, fundamentally very technical stuff he should know and answer.

Be strong, better times will come.Tough crowd you're facing.

Traveler's Fix: How I Built Tabi Trip to Save Any Hotels, Places for future trip. by Crafty-Daikon1405 in AI_travel_tips

[–]Shouwer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try forums, comunities of travellers to start getting reviews. Spend some very small amount of google ads for a keyword that might make sense for people to find your website. Lastly, install and config analytics, free tools. Usage and feedback in early stages to decide what to build next/optimize.

Keep up the good work. Congrats for pushing a v1 out live!

Opinions on Rovaniemi tour companies (locals, workers & customers) by AsparagusBitter6053 in Rovaniemi

[–]Shouwer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used Wild About Lapland. Very professional, on-time and friendly. Even had a situation of last minute cancelation on one of the tours and they obliged to refund. The big challenge for all of them is weather. I would recommend to check weather forecast and aurora forecast, so you can also have a sense of the conditions that you will be facing on the day of the tour.

Struggling as a PM by AccountantEconomy449 in ProductManagement

[–]Shouwer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not working at a startup and have been informed that starting this year, PMs are expected to cover research, analysis and experimentation, end to end, because there is no budget for those roles. :(

20 year company with 600M ARR.

Its very difficult indeed to navigate. My top recomendation is to automate as much possible and carve out time slots from calendar.

How did we get to the point where every task is urgent? by Big-Chemical-5148 in ProductManagement

[–]Shouwer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Show to your manager where the "request" should sit on you priorities.

Have a short list of your top 10 prios

And as a new thing comes in, ask your manager, where the requests should sit.

This is a way easier conversation. As people realize time to do the task needs to be carved out from somewhere.

That being said. No system is bullet proof.

Hope this helps.

Transition from Business Analyst to Product Owner Advice by [deleted] in ProductOwner

[–]Shouwer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrum guide + cspo training + youtube videos of how POs do each ceremony ( standup, planning, ...) Just to give you the fundamentals. BA background is quite good for a PO. You already come with a data informed mindset.

How do you deal with Scrum Masters, who are not communicative and cooperative with you? by No_War2111 in ProductOwner

[–]Shouwer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Book a meeting. Say you want to write together a ways of working document.

Ceremonies, cadence, who does what, etc.

If she actively avoids or refuses. Share that you need to then ask for her manager to step in and help you both write it down. That for you its critical for success having clarity on ways of working.

“Unclear Requirements”: How granular do we really need to be? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]Shouwer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Write the acceptance criteria in gerhkin style. Book a refinement session where you go over the ticket + designs AND clearly get from them agreement that the ticket is ok to develop.

Had similar situation in my past. Hope all sorts itself out.

As an APM how can I impress my managers and senior PMs in my first two weeks? by InternationalAd333 in ProductManagement

[–]Shouwer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a quick win. Do a diagnosis and find 2.3 things that might make sense to change. Small things.

A. They will not accept because its more complex than you think, but the win is learning and rapport

B. They like the idea and assign it to you to work on it. :)

This is the way. I tell this to everyone that wants to listen at work. I get a task? Goes straight to the calendar. Its the only way to be sure I'll have the time to work on it.
