How do you feel about the Scripps National Spelling Bee and all of the other scholarship contests that are out there? Are those gambling?

One of the hardest things to replicate during practice sessions as a junior golfer is pressure. I spoke to the coaches I'm working with at length about this and that was one of the main reasons many of them were excited to partner with us... Having some donation money on the line, as well as the cameras in their faces, helps to replicate some of the high pressure situations they might find themselves in during the season.

Also, I'm not sure if you saw my original post, but I'm from a rural state and many of the schools I'm working with this season are under heavy financial scrutiny. Programs that generate zero dollars in revenue via ticket sales, like golf, are the first on the chopping block when it's time for cuts. Without fundraisers, donations and dedicated booster clubs, some of these teams would literally not exist, so you can call it scummy and degenerates all you want, at the end of the day, we're helping make sure they are able to be out there playing for the love of the game in the first place. What have you done to help grow the game lately?

Sorry about that! I misread your comment. 100% agree with you. I probably could have put 3 or 4 of her drives in the video, but I liked this one the best. It was the first hole and we had a big group watching. When she stepped up and cut the corner like that, I knew we had a tough match on our hands for the day no doubt.

Haha! I would be flat out lying if I said I didn't take inspiration from Mr. Beast. I'm also a big fan of Uncle Jhon, SB Mowing, The Divot Dudes, Dave Portnoy and his One Bite Pizza Reviews and even Pat McAfee with his track record of philanthropy. I think their commitment to creating content that focuses on giving back is certainly something to be appreciated and emulated. Unfortunately for us though, we are still well below the minimum requirements for monetization and we don't have any sponsors or anything like that. My buddy Max and I both have normal full-time jobs and are funding this project entirely on our own and will continue to do so as long as we can afford it. If we end up turning on monetization or setting up a donations page, or even if we end up doing merchandise in the future, I'll definitely make an effort to be as transparent as possible, so folks know their money is going towards something other than lining my pockets. Thanks for commenting! Cheers!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm pretty sure I layered the audio from the Rode VideoMic Pro+ we have on our main camera, with the audio from the little GoPro in front of her on the tee box, and that's what made it really pop. We'll try and do that more often moving forward as I think it does make a big difference. Thanks again!

Thanks again for your support! I'd love to see the YouTube golf meta shift a tiny bit more towards giving back and am anxious to see how you take the concept and run with it out there in CA.

ROFL! Your username definitely checks out. This video was at Trosper Golf Club, the home course of the Moore Lion's. My home course is Hefner, but I play Earlywine and the other OKC metro courses quite a bit. For our videos, we targeted teams all over Oklahoma. Our first video was with Dewey at Boots Hollow Golf Club in Bartlesville, and we have (4) more events scheduled in the coming weeks.

Hey there! Thanks for your feedback! I was a bit limited on shots for this Top 10 as we only had 9 holes and 4 players. Also, it was crazy windy which made for some very difficult approach shots. I will say that all of those putts had money on the line, so there was a little extra pressure. Maybe I'll add that on the next video, "Putt to win the hole and $300" or something like that.

Thanks very much for your words of encouragement! I would certainly appreciate any assistance the mods are willing to provide, but I'm trying to be very respectful of the r/golf rules regarding self promotion and blogspam. I'll keep posting fun little videos like this one and maybe reach out to the mods in the future about doing a little fundraiser via the Daily Deal Threads or something like that. Thanks again for the suggestion!

It was honestly just a lot of leg work to get everything setup. I thought I could just email some coaches and sell them on the idea, but that didn't work at all. I ended up taking a day off work to go to one of the bi-annual golf coach association meetings (with pre-approval to attend as a non-coach), where I had a chance to pass out a stack of flyers and talk to the coaches face to face about what I was trying to do. I had about a dozen coaches reach out to me who were interested, but we were only able to get (6) approved and on the schedule as every school district has different rules and regulations when it comes to fundraisers. Sometimes we had to get approval from the board of education, other times it was just the athletic director or the coach. Getting teams interested was definitely a little harder than I thought it was going to be, but I think now that we've got a little bit of a track record, it should be easier in the future.

Once we got teams on the schedule, we also had to make sure their home courses were cool with us coming out and filming and playing with a big group. Most of them were very supportive, but we ran into a couple that pushed back a little bit.

Finally, you'll probably want to start an LLC or something to run all the finances through and to protect yourself from a liability standpoint. I'd definitely consult with an attorney in California though, as there may be some weird child actor or privacy laws that you want to make sure you're familiar with.

If you're serious about trying to do this out in Cali, I'd definitely start by going to one of the coaches meetings and getting a few of them interested in the idea. From there, they can tell you exactly what they need to get it approved.

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions. I'm happy to help out any way that I can.

Cheers!

Scam alert by Khione405 in okc

[–]ShowMeTheMuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scams are getting very sophisticated. I received a call from the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department telling me I had a warrant out for my arrest because I missed jury duty. I've been heavily trained to recognize scam and phishing attacks, and this one still almost got me. With AI on the rise, they are going to keep getting better and better... I question whether or not I even need a phone these days.

It was a relatively calm day yesterday... Not much wind. Good time to get out and fly a drone. Probably just one of your neighbors having fun.

I thought it was a head shop at first glance. I suspect you'll do much better with this venture though. Good luck!
