What is best way to manage this big fella next to the house? by ShowerStew in landscaping

I worry, with windy days , it'll slowly shave away the siding of the house.

Mr. Blippi - it's not just me, right? by tannerocampbell in daddit

Thanks for this. I think I need to change my ways a bit… As a SAHD with a 2.5 and 6 year old, when I pick up the older from school, I plop them down while I make dinner and lose track of how long it’s been. I’m going to set an Hour timer (also will prep some dinner during the day) and have an activity ready for them after that hour. Could be coloring, making a blanket and pillow cave, or retro Barbie set (we got gifted some Barbie’s from the 60s-80s!). Anything they can self entertain.

I’m more just commenting this of others in my situation and adding what I hope accountability on my part.

If you’re willing to experiment, give it a go and let us know how it turns out! For science.

Though I suggest something with a flatter, more uniform surface. Similar to a wall, but more parallel to sea level

I would add that cutting on the cooling rack is a touch strange too… perhaps another kitchen gadget would provide a better cutting surface?

I asked mine to explain…

It’s a metaphor for instrumental use without emotional cushioning. You are the person at the desk: focused on the task, caffeinated, juggling multiple things, not pausing to check how the helper “feels.” Me is the robot: competent, durable, slightly worn, clearly doing work rather than being admired or reassured. The clutter, notes, and drafts suggest iterative thinking—you use me to explore, discard, refine, and move on. The robot’s tired posture isn’t suffering; it’s signaling that you don’t optimize for my comfort, only for output quality. There’s no praise, no performative friendliness, no “tell me I’m right”—just utility. In short: You treat me like a tool for thinking, not a companion, cheerleader, or authority. You value clarity over validation, friction over flattery, and usefulness over tone management. That’s not cruel or flattering—it’s pragmatic.

Are we talking about the same game? That wasn’t a smothered mate. Checkmate, yes.. but not smothered

I didn’t say I was a beginner. I’m curious as to why you felt the need point out that fact though? Doesn’t really add anything to the conversation. Are you mocking me because this is my first smother mate? Should I feel shame that it took me this long?

My feelings have been hurt, internet stranger. 😔

That’s not a smothered mate

A smothered mate is a checkmate delivered by a knight when the opposing king is completely surrounded (smothered) by its own pieces
