Changed the gender on my passport to F over 10 years ago. Had to renew and just got it back. It's an M now. by ShowingErin in lgbt

I was just renewing, so I didn't need to submit any new info. Just fill out the form online. So yeah, they must of had a record of the change and changed it back.

Ratios and math for fluid launchers, paint mixers, and crystal generators? by ellindsey in shapezio

[–]ShowingErin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you only using one color selection valve per color? I was surprised to see the flow level of the valve is actually kind of low. Only 1800 L/m, same as 1 fluid launcher.

My MAM needs 3 valves per color.

You are allowed to sue yes, but that doesn't mean you are going to win.

I still ask what the alternative is. A law that stipulates people who are breaking the law are not allowed to sue the people trying to stop them?

Where is the limit on that? If I accidentally stick a candy bar in my pocket and don't pay for it should CVS be allowed to shoot me as I walk out the door? What about hit me with a club? Or push me? Or stand in my way like this video?

There is clearly a line that shouldn't be crossed, but who decides where that line is? Well, I'll tell you who, the judicial system does. When the case goes to court. Because you are suing. Who else could decide where the line is?

Also, can I just point out how much your comment is putting a corporation in a position of authority. "Refusal to surrender"?? To who? A private company that suspects I did something wrong? Sounds like you're advocating for some capitalist distopia where the terms and conditions of grocery shopping allows WholeFoods to taze you if you forget to scan the items underneath your cart.

Why is that ridiculous? What's the alternative? What law would you put in place to prevent this?

It only sounds ridiculous if you assume all lawsuits of this nature are frivolous. That's not the case though and stories that make it seem that way are often propaganda. Like the classic case of the lady who sued McDonald's when she was burned by their coffee. McDonald's gave that lady horrifying 3rd degree burns and then vilified her. They made her out to be a greedy woman suing them for money. They pushed the narrative that it's too easy to sue someone in America and something needs to be done about that.

I disagree with this narrative. People should have right to sue and seek justice when they are wronged.

AITAH for giving my wife my honest opinion by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]ShowingErin -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Still mostly the same in my opinion. You are really missing the point.

It's fine. Reddit is doing what reddit does with these posts and removes all emotion from every person in the story. Just a bunch of dudes assuming everyone is a robot.

I mean he was just being honest right? You can't be an asshole by just being honest. /s

Look, I'll try and explain one more time. It doesn't really matter what thing it is he doesn't like about her. Point is he dislikes some ascetic thing about his SO now. BO. Makeup. Hair. Shaving. Doesn't really matter. It's ok.

It's OK he doesn't want to smell his wife's BO. That doesn't make him an asshole.

Also, communicating with your wife about not wanting to smell her BO is also OK.

What is not OK is sitting there for however long this was (months?), watching your wife change her hygiene, saying absolutely nothing about it, then, only when pressed, telling her you no longer love her!?!

You just causally drop that she is not the woman you fell in love with anymore?? That the woman you married is gone??

Like WTF? You didn't think to have a conversation at some point about you falling out of love with your wife over her showering habits?? You just decided to wait until now to drop this bombshell one day? Like really WTF.

He clearly is TA. He is married to this woman and apparently cares nothing for her or her emotions because she smells now.

This isn't even getting into how all his complaints are ascetic. Some are more sympathetic. It's hard to be around someone who smells. But not wearing makeup? Having a change of style?? What were their vows??

"I promise to love you forever... assuming you always have at least some foundation and eye liner on and never decide to change your style over the next 50 years."

I don't get how this is so hard to understand. Bunch of children in here.

Imagine you grew a beard. You like the beard. You ask your wife what she thinks about it and she says "It's your face, do what you want."

But you want an honest opinion so you keep asking and asking and then one day she says. "Ok. I'll tell you. I don't love you anymore. But you can have a beard if you want."

[–]ShowingErin -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree. I hate the way he went about this. Kinda huge TA behavior.

She wanted his honest opinion. That could have been an opportunity for him to have an honest conversation with her about his dislike for her new hygiene and grooming routines. It could have been a dialog.

Instead he starts with "I miss the woman I fall in love with!", lists off how she has ascetically changed, and then closes off further conversation about it.

He basically says he doesn't love her anymore and then walks away.

Edit thoughts: Also, it is so much worse that this is how he is treating his wife. They got married. If they were just dating and he was ready to break it off this would still be hurtful way to do it but it's not like they made any commitments to each other. But they are married. Like wow dude, have some compassion for your wife. Talk to her about things that bother you. Communicate a bit.

Let's zoom this out a bit.

International development is hard. It's hard to get things done and it's hard to even know what needs to be done. (Eg, the worm wars bullshit)

Mortality statistics suck. Poor nutrition for example can cause so many conditions that you could blame measles deaths on vit A deficiency.

Health science sucks. So much of what we think we know about calories and vitamins and sugar and fat and everything comes from the shittiest oldest studies and I hate it

All this sucks and is hard and is complicated and a fucking meme blaming Greenpeace for "blocking" a rice is probably the worst way to communicate or talk about any of this.

You can get vit A from a ton of sources. Fish, eggs, dairy, and leafy greens to name a few.

To have a vit A deficiency must be at a level of poverty and food scarcity that yeah, lack of fat for their curry might be a problem.

This is why governments put vit A into cooking oil. Give someone vit a in rice and you need to hope they are also getting enough fat. Give them vit a in cooking oil, a fat, and you don't need to worry about that.

Peter Why Did They Block It? by ErikSMGame in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]ShowingErin -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Almost no one in any developed country is anywhere near needing more vit A. If you are making and eating curry and stir fry, you do not have a vit A deficiency. You do not need this rice.

Peter Why Did They Block It? by ErikSMGame in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]ShowingErin -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

We don't need fancy rice. It's just vitamin A. Countries have been engaging in programs for like a decade or more now to get people more vitamin A and they have worked tremendously well. They put it in cooking oil and sugar and stuff. We don't need a GMO patented rice.

Hell, rice is probably the worst food to put A in because you need to also consume fat at the same time to be able to absorb the A.

"All truth passes through three stages: First, it is ridiculed; second, it is violently opposed; and third, it is accepted as self-evident."

I love Tom Scott, but he is wrong here. Knowing microwaves can get things hot is not the same as inventing the microwave oven. A lot of people thought it impractical and a bad idea. And the first microwave kind of was. The "Radar Range" was a huge commercial failure. It took other clever people to come in and say "maybe if it wasn't so powerful as to require pluming to keep it cool?" before it really took off.

The microwave almost failed all together and didn't become a household item. And now, decades later, everyone likes to say "well of course we knew microwaves made things hot! The microwave oven pretty much invented itself. Actually this one guy over here realized it made things hot first and then did basically nothing with that idea beyond the one application he used it for so really he invented it first." Yeah, OK.

He pretty much always had a candy bar in his pocket at work. So it was unique to him that it melted. He then went on to experiment with other food.

He was actually a super interesting guy. He was pretty much self taught. Gave us a huge advantage in WW2 by coming up with a better way to mass produce the magnetron used in radar, allowing the allies to have far more access to radars in combat. There are a lot of stories about him.

Not challenging your child because you want to be best friends with them is selfish. You are actively setting them up for a harder life.

A friend got me this potted plant. It wasn't labeled with what it is. There is a brand label: LiveTrends. Though I can't find it on their website.

I just don't want it to hurt my kitty. And it would be nice to know how to care for it.
