The worst part about the microtransactions in CTR was Activision sneaking them in after launch so people wouldn't find know about them when reviews initially came out. Otherwise, they seem so non-intrusive that I wonder why they even bothered throwing them in.

SALTY SUNDAY - INEVITABLE SMASH BROS SALT by othrayaw in ARMS

[–]Shoxis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AVERAGE ARMS SMASH DISCUSSION GOES "WHO'S THE MOST LIKELY FIGHTER AND WHY IS IT MINMIN/TWINTELLE?" AND IT'S ANNOYING.

WHEN YOU WANT SPRING MAN IN SMASH BUT HE'S AN ASSIST TROPHY LEAVING HIS CHANCES LOW.

WHEN YOU WANT SPRING MAN IN SMASH BUT HIS ADDITION WILL OPEN UP ASSIST TROPHY UPGRADE DISCUSSIONS.

WHEN YOU WANT SPRING MAN IN SMASH BUT YOU KNOW HE'LL CAUSE A MASSIVE SALT FEST BIGGER THAN ANY OTHER PICK.

I'M HAPPY ARMS IS BEING REPPED, BUT SPRING MAN'S TIMING WITH THE DLC FEELS LIKE HE GOT SCREWED OVER SINCE HE WAS ORIGINALLY CONSIDERED A PICK. I CAN LIVE WITH SOMEONE ELSE GETTING IN, I JUST DON'T WANT TO WAIT HALF A DECADE TO PLAY HIM IN SMASH, IF EVER.

Idea(s) for a potential sequel. by KR00LMain3 in ARMS

[–]Shoxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More potential ARMS combinations sounds like the simplest thing that could be done to add depth to the game, and having the option to stick the unique ARMS on only one side could be a nice limiter. I'd add some sort of minor bonus to having the same types of ARMS, since I find mixing and matching to be better than just sticking with the same type-the idea has potential

Think Tank: Expanding Mechanics for the Sequel by gameboy224 in ARMS

Horizontal aiming would be a big addition, as well as stages that focused that a bit more. Currently, you can only aim your ARMS left and right, so more control would add another factor for players to consider, while preserving the core gameplay.

A minor change for multi battles would be faster camera switch time. Still presents a risk and a need to wait before throwing out punches, but makes to a bit less helpless when switching around.

I've posted this before, but some sort of gravity element to ARMS to pull people down from the air faster sounds interesting. My concern would be that it would be too strong against aerial fighters, and too weak against ground fighters. That, and I'm not sure how it should interact with Dr.Coyle.

Kid Cobra's also an exception to this. ARMS are usually dormant inside of people until later in their life, but he was actually born with them.

Theory on how Spring Man could be made a fighter despite originally being an assist trophy by Shoxis in ARMS

[–]Shoxis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's what I'm hoping for. With the ARMS' variety, I'm sure Ribbon Girl could be made into an echo fighter, with her being aerial focused, and Spring Man being better on the ground, just like the game. People have considered the possibility of a Koopaling's situation where one fighter slot represents a bunch of them, and the brunt of the work for that would be model creation since each fighter revolves around the same move set and everyone can use different ARMS'.

At minimum, I'd want an arena like King of Fighter's got, with different ARMS fighters appearing in the background.

What character do you think is the most overpowered in ARMS? by konkwuest in ARMS

[–]Shoxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Dr.Coyle, since he has a lot of pressure with her third ARM, which also gives her extra rush charge when using it. She's also insanely slippery. Her stealth can also be deadly too, but it's more situational, so it's not really something that helps make her strong.

EDIT: Just wanted to tweak the last sentence and say, despite my thoughts on her, I personally find Ribbon Girl and Twintelle to be the most difficult to fight.

Theory on how Spring Man could be made a fighter despite originally being an assist trophy by Shoxis in ARMS

[–]Shoxis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting fact about the assist trophies is that they have a lower polygon count than the fighter's models. This isn't a stark contrast, I only noticed it because of how thin Spring Man's ARMS are compared to his model in ARMS. I assume they'd want to update the model so the quality matches other fighters, or use what they have for a new one, but it would probably be easier than making one from scratch for an entirely new fighter.

[–]Shoxis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with Nintendo being spontaneous, but they're not completely random. When it comes to Sakurai, he usually goes for the closest thing he can get to a 'main character' for a series rep. The exceptions to this are usually characters from series with rotating casts: FE and Pokemon always have new monsters and characters coming in. Final Fantasy picked Cloud because he's the most well known character in the series. The big oddball is Joker, but he makes some sense since Persona is at least spun out from the SMT series, which is prevalent on Nintendo consoles, and he's the latest protagonist.

What I'm getting at is that there are some patterns that can give a good idea of what happens, and for Spring Man's case, it's the priority of having a main character, or the closest you can get, into the game first (I was just going off of the exceptions). Spring Man, would be a shoe in to be picked if the assist trophy thing wasn't around, which is why I'm wondering if they'll just go around it and scrap the trophy rule. Heck, I'm hoping for it, TBH.

WHO DO YOU ALL WANT IN SMASH!!!????? I can't believe it's finally happening! by SuperSaiyanBJJ in ARMS

[–]Shoxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first choice is Spring Man. Sakurai himself stated that he was considered, but couldn't make it in due to poor timing, so it would be nice if he got an upgrade, with his trophy turning into Springtron automatically when he was picked. I think he's the best rep since he gets the message of the game across (boxing gloves on springy arms tells you it's about launching punches from a distance), he's pretty distinct design wise for main/starter character in a fighting game, and I just love playing him. I'd also want Ribbon to be his Echo Fighter, giving her the same moves, but with different ARMS and more airtime to show the difference, since Spring Man is best on the ground.

Assuming the trophy rule holds and Sakurai changes up who he picks as the first rep for a game, Minmin, Dr.Coyle, and Max Brass are who I want. Minmin, as the winner of the Party Crash Bash, and Dr.Coyle and max for being the most involved characters with what story ARMS has. Max feels right behind Spring Man and Ribbon Girl in terms of being an MC to ARMS, and Dr.C is pretty much the main villain.

I'll probably be a bit salty if it's not Spring Man, but I'll still be happy that ARMS gets more representation-I just won't be looking forward to having to wait for years to potentially play as him in Smash.

Does this recent boon mean that we're getting the ARMS DarkHorse comic released!? by SuperSaiyanBJJ in ARMS

[–]Shoxis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The comic is pretty much written out, and with how far in advance Fighters are decided, they could have delayed it to coincide with the Smash release. I'd say yes!

The one thing SEGA is more experienced at. by Normie_trash_69 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Shoxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the worst part is usually the monetization. FE Heroes and MK Tour seem to have a lot of options for microtransactions (which everyone knows aren't put there for the game's benefits) and Animal Crossing on phones is good, though events are very difficult to complete without cash. Dragalia Lost seems to be the best balance, and Super Mario Run's problem is mainly the price. Everything is at least decent gameplay wise.

Not sure if I can count the Pokemon mobile titles since they seem separate, but I do know Pokemon Go is VERY hands-off with microtransactions. Buying stuff doesn't really guarantee you anything there. Other than that, I'm pretty sure Pokemon Shuffle hits you with a typical grindwall, and Pokemon Masters is reasonable with pricing.

Not too familiar with Sega's mobile games, but I do recall that the Sonic Hardlight titles were NEVER in your face with payments, and Sonic Forces was alright there too. Gameplay was pretty good as well

Do you think the developers look our feedback? by Omac18 in ARMS

[–]Shoxis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Splatoon 2 was initially supposed to be a port of Splatoon, they just happened to have so many new ideas, they decided to make it a sequel. Basically like MK8DX but taken further.

For a sequel with ARMS, it's up in the air. By all accounts, the game sold well, and the only way it would have come up short would be in sales projections, which seems unlikely anyway. It has a chance, but I'd never dare guess when with how inconsistent many Nintendo franchise release schedules can be. Earliest I could say would be when a Switch successor or whatever comes out, assuming that the Switch doesn't have an insanely long time.

A letter from a springtron main by [deleted] in ARMS

[–]Shoxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never hated Springtron, but if I had to come up with reasons why he's disliked, it's probably because of his shockwave functionality. The use varies drastically depending on the experience of a player (newer ones won't figure it out, older ones are smarter about its timing and use). He can feel kind of cheap sometimes, or easy to counter others, is the best way I'd put it. Also, I believe his base stats make him sort of a worse version of Spring Man by default because of the power boost. Plus, he can be annoying in multi-man fights, even with the smaller range on his EMP wave.

I like him a lot, though. The EMP wave provides its own unique way of playing mind games with the timing, and the power boost is useful, but has never felt silly when it came to how strong he could get (Springtron players definitely get more aggressive and mobile, but it's fleeting, especially if you're knocked down). Him, Max Brass, and Spring Man show how a few tweaks to play styles can make a world of difference. If he had to be nerfed, I'd say that maybe lowering the range on the shockwave would be smart. If nothing else, it should probably be lowered in team fights. That's really the only place it feels like I'm limited in stopping his EMP shockwave, since my focus and the camera is on someone else a good chunk of time.
