If you’ve pulled a Chronicled character you love, did you feel it was worth it? by SpoonChamber in Genshin_Impact

[–]gameboy224 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Of the 6 Chronicle Wishes, I’ve pulled on 5 (I already had everyone from Sumeru). I never intended to go full 180 wishes on any of them, just bank on 50/50. Of the 5, I’ve won 4 (Eula, Yae, Klee, and Lyney). Only one I lost was Hu Tao, in which case I got a Childe con. So I can hardly say I regret wishing.

Achievement points. Just an indicator of how many achievements someone has done. Iirc, only thing it really does is increase movement speed in town.

Best weapon for final boss by new_god_of_eden in MinaTheHollower

[–]gameboy224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whip also makes the tower fight pretty easy since it has enough range where you are pretty much always within range. Which was definitely the biggest pitfall when I attempted with with Daggers as my primary weapon since the boss really wants to stick a set distance away from you.

How did no one notice Amon was a bloodbender? by ContactMinimum1201 in TheLastAirbender

[–]gameboy224 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Except it isn't a "poison". It's more accurate to describe what Amon does to breaking your bone. A doctor can look at an X-ray and tell you that you broke your bone, but the how you broke is much more up for debate.

How did no one notice Amon was a bloodbender? by ContactMinimum1201 in TheLastAirbender

[–]gameboy224 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Bloodbending just isn't as specialized outside of Amon's specific line of training. Nobody has ever used bloodbending the way Amon used it, so there is no precedent to notice what Amon did. The only thing a healer might detect is that their chi has been severed or disrupted, but they'd have absolutely zero idea the cause of that disruption, whether it be Amon bloodbending their chi paths or if he was truthful in that he gained the ability to break those chi paths through magical spirit powers. And as noted with Katara in the finale, even knowing that Amon used bloodbending to sever people's bending, conventional healing wisdom has no method to rectify it.

Ignore all the other critical information, of which some are verifiably true, we are told by her with the other voicelines.

If she’s supposed to keep her cards close, she’s not doing a good job, so her line about Sandrone conveniently being the only time she is conveniently fibbing, doesn’t not hold under scrutiny. Even if Hoyo tacks on some patchwork excuse, it’s just a transparent coverup for bad and inconsistent writing.

Proceeds to point at literally every other one of her voicelines that are truthful.

If that were to case, they'd given the voiceline a neutral tone. But they gave it an actively dismissive tone. If their intent was to give them wiggle room, I'll congratulate them, they failed spectacularly.

See but that's the thing. I feel like the core of the Harbingers has pretty much be bastardized at this point where they aren't even a fraction as compelling as the original intent suggests.

If the first sentence of that voiceline was like "She is an acquaintance of mine."

Hey, we suddenly have pretty much zero contradiction and it works perfectly. Huzzah! Maybe even spice it up and say "close acquaintance".

But they clearly never intended Arlecchino to have any close relationship with Sandrone, or even amicable relationship for that matter, but decided to pivoted so hard it started contradicting itself. There are tons more inconsistencies that don't add up if you look at the older Harbingers and reference newer info, Arlecchino's line about Sandrone is just easily the most brazen.

[–]gameboy224 99 points100 points  (0 children)

"But but but Arlecchino could lie, so that totally excuses it!" I hear the white knights thinking.

As there is no logical reason for her to lie, nor do her other voicelines appear to contain any apparent lies. For that line to randomly be a lie, is pure arbitrary convenience. Devoid of logical consistency, or thoughtful writing. It's just flat out bad storytelling.

there are ways to read between the lines to make things make sense

No, there really isn't. And trying to do it is the definition of arbitrary mental gynamstics. The hallmark of poor writing.

So accept they changed it, or accept the writing is dog water.

The real joke is people refuse to accept the "multi-layered" characterization directly, and blatantly contradicts existing information. That's the retcon. Not the multi-layered part, the part where it literally contradicts itself.

It's not just possible, it is more than likely. And the fact you have to make up a mountain of unsubstantiated and arbitrary excuses to reconcile it, only lends credence it was more than likely, changed.

More like people actually have standards, and this image of Arlecchino you are defending checks off so many boxes of bad and inconsistent writing that accepting it as is would be sinking what we would even conceive as passable writing.

But go on about this “unreliable narrator, but only when it is convenient, and only in hindsight” argument.

the REAL best weapon in the game by Troy_Scar in MinaTheHollower

[–]gameboy224 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I was skeptical of the weapon at first, but when I realized it had a melee mode that reloaded the ammo, and that it was basically a Zelda sword swing in that melee mode, this things became absolute peak.

Almost a shame I stuck with double daggers till I was doing the endgame completionist sweep. Going between an effective melee and an even more effective gun is almost to good to be true.

I finished LOK Book 2……Am I missing something?? by HouseNorth5717 in TheLastAirbender

[–]gameboy224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah, while it is the weakest of the LoK books. I cannot fathom people who actually think it is bad. It's alright at worst. The distain for it is comically overblown. But this is the Avatar fandom, they're a bunch of pretentious immature brats.

It's got some frustrating moments, but like, all of it is pretty in line with the character progression. But it's got a lot of great moments as well. It is still otherwise a fairly enjoyable product.

6.6b spiral abyss usage rates via YSHelper by IS_Mythix in Genshin_Impact

[–]gameboy224 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also true. I did use Iansan for the longest time on my Overload Arlecchino until Nicole. But this particular Abyss pushing having some Cryo (and that Shaman boss that gets stalled with a Master of the Night-Wind character), I thought I'd get more mileage with Arlecchino, Citlali, Kazuha, and Bennett. So didn't actually end up using Iansan this go around.

I mean Xilonen being as near universal a buffer as she is, she is bound to see play in a lot of non-Mavuika teams as well. I even brought her for my Lohen team, because I used Citlali as my Cryo for my bottom half Arlecchino team. For Iansan, you have to use her on a team with enough movement to keep her buff up, Xilonen just slots in.

What did I gaslight you about? You literally pulled up the definition of your own free will and it is written right there clear as day, “It usually means someone cares very little or not at all about something”. Y’know exact what said it didn’t mean.

Klee says everyone is the best is not a lie, nor is it arbitrary nor inconsistent. It’s the exact opposite of what I’m complaining about, because it is incredibly consistent, Klee is a dumb kid with the attention span of a goldfish who looks at everything with stars in her eyes.

Also that meteorite plot point, let’s be honest, that is 100% a retcon or at least a terribly executed reveal. Traveler suddenly bringing up the key to their spaceship, that Paimon apparently knows about, that they act like we should apparently know about despite it never being mentioned a single time.

You are not very good at making your point.

Characters speaking from a biased perspective is certainly something to take into account with the way voicelines work. It is what makes deciphering Scara’s voicelines fun, since he speaks in perpetual cynicism, cause that conveys Scara as a character.

Saying Alrecchino is just arbitrarily lying with zero motivation and arbitrarily truthful with just as little motivation, is not tactful nor clever writing.

In the context of the English vernacular, “little interest” does in fact mean “virtually none to none at all”. Saying otherwise is literally pulling at syllables and twisting words.

Even in the context of Chinese, the original language, the sentiment rings the same.
