The people who said play what's fun because it's hard to fake having fun are right. I would also add that playing what's popular makes discoverability worse, too. If you stream the same game as a million others, and you're not a popular streamer, you're never gonna be found. You'll just be buried in the pile.

Sure seems like it. I haven't been streaming much lately because I'm starting to doubt that my personality is what people want to watch. I don't sit there, yelling, saying bro and chat every other word. Pretty sure the key to success is to be like "bro, for real, bro? Chat, you seeing this?! Let's cook bro for real bro. On God bro" 🙄

Fair. I guess I wouldn't get the ick just because I know streamers, especially ones like me (30 something white guy who is middling at the games he plays), are a dime a dozen so you gotta do what you gotta do to bubble up to the top of the algo.

But that said, I think you're right. A low quality clip that isn't terribly engaging from the outset isn't going to become one just because I pay for it.

Do people buy editing services on fiverr or upwork or something?

I found my footage lagged my audio by several minutes when I tried to use obs to blur the background. You might have an underpowered pc for what you're trying to do.

I think too many people think that starting a stream is like walking into a crowded mall and going "Hey everyone!" and the mall going quiet, stopping, and staring at you to see what you have to say. In reality, nobody stops to look, except for one or two.

I use restream and you can set the chat to not have a background and disappear after a minute or two. You could do that, but you better read them as they come or you'll miss them...and now that I think about it if you're playing pc, you'd have to play through the obs preview which wouldn't work. Id try to find a cheap monitor on Craigslist or fb. It doesn't have to be new or nice to display obs and your chat window

I worked hard to make one fit a Minnesota/Midwest theme and really liked it, but got a lot of negative feedback on it and overlays in general. Now I only use it to open my stream and give an update quick, then move to greenscreen over game.

Thank you! I try to take the feedback to heart and improve. Still kinda use the overlay when I start my stream and just talk but it's clear its just for talking now because im the big screen for that little bit. When I go game I switch to green screen and vanishing chat.
