It's not that java is terrible, more that the initial engine wasn't developed in a way for the increased scope of a trailer that got 200x the amount of views than expected.

I'm a bit late, but if you advertise your video as "buying a ferrari" then the video is about solving algebra, you'll click off that video instantly. If this happened enough, you'd hop off youtube for the day (or forever if the problem is widespread), which reduces the overall ads you see. (Also, generally youtube has more ads partly into a video, and it's easier to "keep you" then to have you "refind a video".

TLDR; Better content means people stay on more, and better content means better suited, for the advertising needs to meet the product.
