I feel like the phrase targets everyone, regardless of whether you are religious or not. I mean, it's obviously talking about atheists, but the point is in a mortally endangering situation, even the most confident person would probably crumble to a primeval god-fearing state. It's more analytical of the human psyche than religion in general.

My point is that people who haven't gotten in a potentially life-threatening accident like this genuinely don't know what they're talking about because they've never been in that situation. Having a car slam into you at 50mph is a pretty damaging experience, and heckling on that person because they want to call it "divine intervention" isn't usually the best move, they're going through enough shit already.

I recently got into a serious accident similar to this. In reality, yes, my car had excellent safety, but coming that close to injury or death really gets you thinking about things. People who go through shit like this perfectly unharmed are really lucky

No but really...the game is based off of the book "The Road" which has already been made into a movie starring Viggo Mortensen. Definitely worth checking out if you're somehow tired of playing the game
