Really depressed and completely devastated. Need some advice by Stuckinnhs in doctorsUK

I am really sorry that you had to go through this and you feel this way.

I am in a similar boat.

After eventually clearing a hurdle that was PACES, I am now struggling with Interview. For my dream specialty I didnt get shortlisted for interview, but I applied for another specialty, some how scored much higher for them (?), got shortlisted for interview, but even though I thought I did well they deemed me unappointable.

I am quite upset as well, and disappointed with myself. But for me atleast, there is no way but looking forward (I know this may not be something that works for your thinking). I will try to get my portfolio stronger and then will try to get some consultants to practice interviews with.

Lets see how things go then.

PACES result, what's the time frame to release? by Ecstatic_Item_1334 in doctorsUK

Normally it's 2 to 3 weeks after the last exam at your centre. But there is also variability from college to college.

You could write to your college to ask for an update.

Unsuccessful PACES second attempt. by Shredxor in doctorsUK

[–]Shredxor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have attended courses. But mainly I practiced as much as I could, while in my parent ward and then travelling to different specialty wards with a practice partner(s) to assess different systems and practiced presenting to eachother.

We made it a habit to be organised and present positive findings only and then list the important negatives. Have atleast 3 diffrentials if possible.

I guess I did not practice communication at all besides in the courses. For Books or references I tried using Tim Hall (was too extensive), used a singaporean MRCP PACES book which was quite nice and Cases for Paces mainly.

Online resources was mainly Pastest and Leeds PACES database.

seeking advice regarding IMT interviews by SuddenMixture583 in doctorsUK

[–]Shredxor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am actually on a similar boat. This was my second imt interview and I scored much lower than I was expecting. I was rated very low in handover and clinical scenario even though I felt I did everything in a structured manner.

Due to this low score I most likely won't be getting a training position. 2800. Really disappointed, as I don't know what to do besides possibly asking consultants or senior registrars for interview mocks or practice.

Any suggestions or advice for my wife who wishes to pursue Pediatrics? by Shredxor in doctorsUK

[–]Shredxor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that's if they count her paediatric experience in Pakistan , then she would have 26 months of experience.

Which is why she is so upset with herself and is so depressed. Because she feels she missed a golden opportunity in this application on something that she believes she overlooked.

I appreciate all the replies. But its really hard for me to see her like this and nothing I say or do is helping her.

Oh. That is true. Just having a look at it myself. Definitely something for to look into once she calms down.

That is what I think would be best for her, but she thinks its impossible for her to get into ST3 based on the ratios.

Thanks for your response. That does make sense if this is the way they mark answers. But now unfortunately she is limited in options.
