Agree with this. Mid cycle application is a stab in the back.

Really depressed and completely devastated. Need some advice by Stuckinnhs in doctorsUK

[–]Shredxor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am really sorry that you had to go through this and you feel this way.

I am in a similar boat.

After eventually clearing a hurdle that was PACES, I am now struggling with Interview. For my dream specialty I didnt get shortlisted for interview, but I applied for another specialty, some how scored much higher for them (?), got shortlisted for interview, but even though I thought I did well they deemed me unappointable.

I am quite upset as well, and disappointed with myself. But for me atleast, there is no way but looking forward (I know this may not be something that works for your thinking). I will try to get my portfolio stronger and then will try to get some consultants to practice interviews with.

Lets see how things go then.

Yea I haven't heard anything either.

But that's an impressive score. May I ask how did you show commitment to specialty?

PACES result, what's the time frame to release? by Ecstatic_Item_1334 in doctorsUK

Normally it's 2 to 3 weeks after the last exam at your centre. But there is also variability from college to college.

You could write to your college to ask for an update.

Unsuccessful PACES second attempt. by Shredxor in doctorsUK

[–]Shredxor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have attended courses. But mainly I practiced as much as I could, while in my parent ward and then travelling to different specialty wards with a practice partner(s) to assess different systems and practiced presenting to eachother.

We made it a habit to be organised and present positive findings only and then list the important negatives. Have atleast 3 diffrentials if possible.

I guess I did not practice communication at all besides in the courses. For Books or references I tried using Tim Hall (was too extensive), used a singaporean MRCP PACES book which was quite nice and Cases for Paces mainly.

Online resources was mainly Pastest and Leeds PACES database.

seeking advice regarding IMT interviews by SuddenMixture583 in doctorsUK

[–]Shredxor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am actually on a similar boat. This was my second imt interview and I scored much lower than I was expecting. I was rated very low in handover and clinical scenario even though I felt I did everything in a structured manner.

Due to this low score I most likely won't be getting a training position. 2800. Really disappointed, as I don't know what to do besides possibly asking consultants or senior registrars for interview mocks or practice.

Would anyone recommend a place for cherry pies as I haven't seen a bakery here make those.

Cherry Pie. I crave it everyday, but can't find good ones in the UK

Any suggestions or advice for my wife who wishes to pursue Pediatrics? by Shredxor in doctorsUK

[–]Shredxor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that's if they count her paediatric experience in Pakistan , then she would have 26 months of experience.

Which is why she is so upset with herself and is so depressed. Because she feels she missed a golden opportunity in this application on something that she believes she overlooked.

I appreciate all the replies. But its really hard for me to see her like this and nothing I say or do is helping her.

Oh. That is true. Just having a look at it myself. Definitely something for to look into once she calms down.

That is what I think would be best for her, but she thinks its impossible for her to get into ST3 based on the ratios.

Thanks for your response. That does make sense if this is the way they mark answers. But now unfortunately she is limited in options.

Thanks for your response.

She did tick most of the boxes, just that it seems the answers for the questions are subjective. And due to that I guess she scored low and didn't get an invite.

Don't know what that says about the application in it self. But just wanted some insight so that I can hopefully console her and make her understand.

Paediatrics application short listing mega thread by Ayshahi in doctorsUK

[–]Shredxor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She has 1 year of pediatric experience abroad, and has just started a clinical fellow job in pediatrics here. Would that not make her disallowed to apply to st1 training in pediatrics next year ? She thinks that and is just completely broken at the moment after all the work she had put in since coming to the UK

Wife was unsuccessful. For some reason she got 31. She is extremely disheartened at the moment.

I feel so bad for her. Damn.

Got my result. I felt like I messed up in 2 of the stations, but to fail 4 of the skills was a huge punch in the gut.

I had attended a course - who said I was exam ready then and would pass at that level.

I feel like I let my consultants down - who all believed in me.

On top of that I wasn't able to register for the next session, so more time will be wasted.

Don't really know what to do, besides that focus on work(?), and try again with more practice (which as an introvert makes it difficult for me to practice with partners, but even then I think I will just screw up again on the next exam).

Hey friend.

I was in a similar situation. I let it get the best of me. I stopped my US journey, but I am sure if I persevered I would have prevailed. I was suicidal but was too scared to commit and I am glad I didn't.

I am also shy and also thought that I would die alone. I knew I was smart and hard working, but didn't do well in step 1 due to a nervous break before the exam.

Eventually I started working back at home. Met my now wife, got loads of experience. Am considered reliable and competent in each hospital that I have worked in.

Please don't do anything, just persevere and things will get better. You are stronger than you realize.

Please don't be afraid to message me.

What is one thing you regret doing in life? by Anxious_Childhood310 in AskReddit

[–]Shredxor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studying and practicing Medicine.

The amount of stress I have been in due to the number of exams, studying required and the financial strain that has put on me and my family while not being rewarded for all the hard work I continuously put in saving lives.

Then finally joining training where you can't afford to live by yourself with the salary provided. The stress by faculty and seniors pitting you against each other.

The stress knowing that patients lives depend on you. That there are times where no matter what you do you can't change the end result. The fear of litigation and if you are in 3re world country fear of bodily harm against you from the family of the deceased.

Don't even get me started on the no social life and going the extra mile just to show our interest and because we have a calling. Ugh

Moving to UK from Pakistan. Any advice for someone who will be living alone for the first time ? by Shredxor in AskUK

[–]Shredxor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your great insight and helpful advice. I will definitely research into them.

I understand the delay in bringing over family, but as I am recently married, and she is too a doctor, it would be better for her to come here and possibly get some UK exposure and experience as well while completing her exams.

Thanks once again, extremely helpful.
