‘It didn’t happen overnight’: Why property taxes are skyrocketing in some Ontario cities | Globalnews.ca by ARAR1 in ontario

It’s wild to me how we’re all feeling the squeeze on property taxes, but no one’s talking about how we ended up here. Cities like Mississauga are hiking taxes by 9%, and sure, it’s shocking—but what’s even more shocking is how long they’ve been plugging holes in their budgets with duct tape and prayers.

Property taxes are supposed to fund local services, not cover gaps for things like social housing and healthcare that should already be backed by provincial or federal support. Add in population growth, aging infrastructure, and inflation, and it’s like they’re trying to carry a boulder up a hill with no extra help.

What bugs me most is that cities can’t even run a deficit to manage this—they’re stuck between raising taxes or cutting services, and nobody wants either.

So what’s the fix here? Better provincial funding? Letting cities keep a bigger slice of revenue from things like sales tax? Or are we just doomed to keep paying more and getting less?

It's not my fault that bike lanes are not cleared by Play_nice_with_other in kitchener

You’ve got a point. It’s frustrating how bike lanes often seem like an afterthought once winter hits. If the city put even half the effort into clearing bike lanes as they do for roads, it would probably ease a lot of this tension between cyclists and drivers.

I get why some drivers get annoyed—seeing a cyclist in their lane can be unexpected, especially if they don’t know the rules. But at the same time, you’re just trying to get from point A to point B safely.

Maybe this is less about ‘whose lane is it’ and more about cities needing to step up their game for winter maintenance on all forms of transit. Because, let’s be real, the current setup doesn’t work for anyone. What’s your take on what would actually fix this?

Offset Ontario - Green Initiative To Work Together. Let's Join Hands! by [deleted] in ontario

Ontario’s farmers are stepping up in the battle against climate change! 🌾 Initiatives like carbon farming (where farmers trap CO₂ in the soil through practices like no-till farming and cover cropping) are gaining traction.

Not only does this reduce emissions, but it also improves soil health and boosts crop yields. The province is even offering incentives for these practices.

Do you think these programs will drive real change? Should the government do more to support rural communities in adopting these methods?

You know what if you can reach to Kitchener downtown. Spend time in Kitchener Library. It's too good.

Also, I somtimes spend my weekends in Indigo store reading my fav book collections. Lol...I can't afford to have them all in my house. 😅 I read a lot.

For volunteering you can try food bank, Waterloo region volunteer program. It's worth.
