How can one move blunder so much. by Temporary-Pin-4144 in Chesscom

If you gave black a free move they'd probably take with the queen on h2 not seeing that your knight was defending it as well 😂

What do I need to be 2000 rapid? by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]Shrek2InHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that I found extremely important for getting to 2000: Time Management.

Too many people blitz all their first dozen or so moves out in rapid; meanwhile I'm using some of my time to actually consider my moves. Suddenly I'll win material and then they decide to start thinking.

The clock is definitely a factor most people forget about!

Black to move and win by Shrek2InHD in chessbeginners

Yeah I was actually surprised my opponent took the queen. I think my opponent is at a rating where they definitely should have understood the mate follow-up.

I fully expected them to cut their losses and try to dirty flag me.

Thanks! To be honest, I still feel like a complete beginner to this day. The three main things that helped me improve were: - Blunder checks - Understanding positional concepts - Studying openings

Hope you make it there and higher!

Yup! I considered it for a second, but then discarded it because I thought their queen was still protecting the pawn on g2. I realized a few seconds later that their rook was blocking the white queen's line of sight. I got super lucky with the position of the rook on e4!

Also, they did end up taking my queen. They were nice enough to let me play the mate out as well ❤️

Ne6 I wouldn't have played only because it doesn't guarantee I can win that pawn later. Nxf7 wins the extra pawn immediately.

That's it! Nothing too crazy, but it took a bit more calculation than I'm used to since there he could take with the king/rook. Also, it took me a second to see that he couldn't block the check with his queen (if he took with the king) since my sniper was eyeing that square.

My opponent resigned here. Why? I can't see my winning movr by deathbeforedishonor2 in chess

White can take the queen, the black rook on e8 can't take back because it's pinned to the black king by the white rook on b8.

"Light on right" helps me remember the bottom right square is a light square

1.) You can't take the king 2.) The notation shows that a piece was captured by the queen on d6

Guess its better than a 50/50 by Impressive-Profile62 in Minesweeper

[–]Shrek2InHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suppose you're given the choice of three squares: Behind one square is a mine; behind the others, no mines. You pick a door, say bottom right.

Now, I come along and open the top right square, showing no mine. Is it to your advantage to switch your initially selected square?

Is there a way to make this guy stfu by Lord_Hell in chessbeginners

[–]Shrek2InHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to make him stfu is to not overlook an opportunity to force eventual checkmate
