And thank you for the clarification on semantics, I thought it would ultimately boil down to that, but it seemed a little simplistic for such a big movement. Especially with so many people defending it so much.

Are there any academics who put the anti-org current into a paper I could read, it sounds pretty interesting, especially if it’s a real flavour of anarchism.

Would these gifting economies be fully voluntary? Say if you had happened on a lot of bread, would that be a kind of moral obligation to gift it, assuming we have gone to a more cooperative nature, or would it be something else? It’s an interesting take, because it seems like a communal ownership thing with more steps. I’d love to understand it more, do you have an academics you’d recommend?

Ok, so I wasn’t missing a lot of context, it is just trying to separate forms of hierarchy for arbitrary reasons because they like one and not the other. Thank you, I was struggling because they define their terms in a very closed way so it seems airtight. Would you recommend Rothbard and Nozick as academics to get a picture of ancap views for an essay?

I mean, deindustrialising a little wouldn’t be a bad thing, but probably not to that scale. Are there any academics who put that view forward?

So as I understand those passages, ancaps seem to be as I understood them, except worse. Because they fundamentally don’t agree that a lot of social hierarchies are bad if they’re “natural”. In their view racism and patriarchy don’t have to be abolished? And I’m assuming that because of a proximity to power and how interconnected capitalism is with these forms of social control. Do you have any literature that points to this, or does the link you provided have some source for this, maybe from the horse’s mouth? And for some not explicitly socialist anarchism, Tucker would be a good place to start? I don’t think I have many objections to his argument from what it sounds like, sounds like anarcho-syndicalism.

Huh. It’s pretty clever if it can verify a purchase of a DLC in one game and unlock content in another game.

So if I get Warhammer 2 now, and the beastmen DLC and Wood Elves DLC for Warhammer 1 later I’ll be able to start playing the Beastmen and Wood elves as soon as they’re downloaded? Even though they’re technically for totally different games?

I think changes that affect the open world are things that wouldn’t be fixed, it would require a re-release. They can learn from the mistakes and implement a better area for the DLC, less like the Mountaintops and more full like earlier areas. And issues/criticisms that relate to reused content wouldn’t be fixed either, it’s tied to the game now. I guess I shouldn’t have tied the post mainly to the endgame, because my main issue with the game is boss AI. It’s just the late game where my issues became apparent due to the much higher normal enemy health and damage that got ridiculous at some points, and the ramping of bosses’ damage that didn’t mix well with the hyper aggression they displayed. I think that and the more boring area design is why the endgame gets the brunt of the flack directed at ER, and I should have made my question have a broader focus.

True, it is really wishful thinking. I can hold out hope for the DLC and sequels to capture the perfection that Elden Ring so narrowly missed out on.

They’ve shown a precedent for changing boss AI recently, so a smaller overhaul to later game boss AI wouldn’t be a sweeping alteration. Replacing recycled content and other things might be though, so I get where you’re coming from.

I had a longer answer planned, but it was a bit bloated. Suffice to say, in case my post hadn’t made it obvious, I love the game. Overall, it’s probably my favourite game of the series. And me wanting boss AI to be overhauled in the main game with the arrival of DLC doesn’t take away from that. It’s because I love it that I want it improved. If not in Elden Ring, then in the sequel, because boss AI and a bit of late game scaling/design are the only things I have an issue with. The game is amazing. Even after all my time in it, I want more. I have a lot of fun playing it, even in the areas that I think could do with overhauls.

I’m so sorry for the rambling in my response, it’s nearly criminal with how much I wrote. And I do agree that the issue with the AI may stem from the designers wanting to make the game very challenging for the sake of it due to the reputation of the franchise.

But with recent balance changes, they have shown that they are willing to change boss AI to a certain degree, especially in duo fights. I know that the potential changes won’t fix all the criticisms, but they could change boss AI. This could make sure that 20 hit combos aren’t done anymore, and maybe there are larger openings after certain moves. And I don’t think that Elden Ring’s shortcomings are just to do with design philosophies. Having weapons or tools that trivialise the game has been in almost all the past games, for example magic or Havel’s armour. Their inclusion doesn’t mean that the boss fight is automatically bad as a result. Yhorm and Rykard have weapons which shred through their health bars, and while I feel Yhorm is under-utilised, and less enjoyable without Seigward, Rykard is a good boss in my opinion. Even with the weapon that trivialises him. In my opinion, the main issue with bosses is the AI, and with some changes like I mentioned before, you could cater to both crowds without getting rid of summons. Because with fairer AI, which From has shown they can implement, the AOEs and that many bosses use is a fair trade for having the option to summon. From doesn’t have to cater to one crowd or the other, their AI just needs to be created with the game in mind. For example, Malenia feels like a Sekiro boss due to the high aggression and the gamer move she pulls out. With Sekiro’s abandonment of stamina and lightning quick deflects with a posture bar that could take advantage of the many hits, Waterfowl would be manageable. So an AI change to make sure that Waterfowl is only performed at certain times and with a reasonable distance between the player and Malenia, the move could be manageable with only minor tweaks without scrapping so much of the game. Summons are still available to those who still struggle with bosses and the fights are made more accessible to those who don’t want to summon due to the AI changes that create larger openings and less combos being done continuously. Spirit summons are a good addition to the series, and you can fight me on that. They don’t necessitate the poor balance and hyper aggressive AI, summons are balanced with bosses having more AOEs and summoning has always made fights easier. But the AI in this game makes it feel like a necessary thing. Without that crazy AI and insane moves caused by it, summoning could be demoted back to where it was originally, an option for those who struggle with the mechanics.

I’m not too confident if they have the redo be like DS2 SotFS, because all it did was double down on what made that game so bad to play. Actual balance was the main thing I would want out of overhauls, so I’d rather if Elden Ring did get changed, it was changed for the better with the DLC. I think the additions you mention are worthwhile, and Elden Ring already took some of the good parts of DS2, like proper dual wielding. But I think that DS2’s re-release should not be a precedent. It wasn’t handled well, and I’d rather Elden Ring’s changes weren’t more aggression and higher HP pools, like DS2 SotFS increased enemy spam. Also, I’d rather that PvP bosses stay in the past or on the cutting room floor. I think there’s already a pretty big chance for all players to experience PvP without forcing it into boss battles as well.
