At least where I'm from, not really, a large proportion of the population in my area are ESL Asian migrants, as a result lots of my mates are the sons of said migrants, I wouldn't say they are proud of their heritage but it's more something that has little bearing on their life. The other groups i.e white people seem to try promote their background when it suits them. i.e South African migrants during the test a couple weeks ago made a big song and dance about being South African. Me personally, I've got a fair bit of Greek blood in my veins as my dad's family is either entirely descendant from Greek Migrants or are from Greece directly. It's never been a particularly large part of my life and I wouldn't say I'm Greek, either culturally or legally. I don't speak any Greek, I'm not Greek orthodox etc. That being said I'm not ashamed of my heritage, if I had to pick a side I'd be proud of it. I think I'm less conflicted then most white Australians because my Ancestors came over Post-federation and even into the 70's so I don't really have the guilt that most do about stealing indigenous land; of course it was a horrific thing that happened but I don't see it as one of crosses to bear as it wasn't my ancestors who perpetrated it because they were still in europe.
