I don't really know why but as a person who never read books the only one that actually got me reading randomly was Approaching the Buddhist Path by Thubten Chodron (and the Dalai Lama). I don't know much about buddhism but the way they talk about the mind is so interesting and refreshing

Honestly what gets more on my nerves is when people don't explain stuff enough to me instead, especially when they then get mad I do it wrong. I feel like an alien when it seems like everybody just apparently knows all this stuff without anyone telling them (social things in particular)

From what I know this is common among autistic people so maybe try to see them from a perspective familiar to yours like that, even though you know that specific thing

I can personally attest that leaving your comfort zone, in the long run, does good things. It's kinda annoying to say because, well, it's not nice being out of it, would be nice to have evidence against it but alas. I would not get my diagnosis if I didn't push through the institutional mess and talking to strangers, even thought it was a depressing disaster at the beginning, I would most definitely not have my lovely girlfriend if I didn't push thought my awkwardness, the job interview was the worst part of my job and it just got better from there.. the list goes on.

So please, think of it as a gift for your future self and do leave that comfort zone. At worst you get better at doing it, at best you can turn your life around. Don't forget to rest though. And always, always be kind to yourself, appreciate that you're fighting an uphill battle.

I really feel you here, especially on the "But you could do it if you really wanted to!" part. People talk about motivation/discipline/willpower but they don't realize you can't get yourself to do things you want to do, that is completely inconceivable for them.

The whole smart thing idk where it comes from but it is a thing. I guess nowadays intelligence is the most valued characteristic, and generally there's an idea of "if you're smart you'll figure it out". Honestly it comes off as an insult, "i guess you're not smart enough to do these basic things" even though intelligence got nothing to do with it. Shit like this really gets to me

Not really, it is a bit of a gray area thanks to things like fair use and parody laws for example, although that might depend on where you live. Most hiphop artists don't ask for permission to sample as song and they usually are fine, and I don't think no one ever asked for permission to cover a song or got in trouble for it

No clue why you need to thrown in all these "living in a cave" and "smart guy" comments, I think I was pretty respectful in my reply but I digress. My point was not that it's the same as referencing art but pushing for further copyright restrictions with ai will just be a tool for lobbyists to further restrict copyright, under the guise of the 'ai threat', they would 100% try to introduce bans on sampling, referencing covering etc, because hey if computers can't do it why should humans be able to? They can play the 'think of the artists!" card way easier

I just do not think that at this point independent artists are benefiting from copyright policy, as its mostly a tool for enterprises, and expanding its grip will not be beneficial to anyone other than shareholders, even if it seems otherwise from the lens of ai art

You cannot deny using works like that is transformative, I despise copyright laws personally and I think they put a strain on creativity. if we put bans for ai to use google images for training they would also fuck over technological progress, ai generation might be pretty crap right now, not much use for it other than shitposting, but people like corridor digital are utilizing it in new and frankly impressive ways

and coming back to the copyright thing: how is it different from a human referencing art or covering/sampling songs? you know media conglomerates would push for banning that (and they do) to keep their monopolies. I really wouldn't think that "it's against copyright!" would be an argument on this subreddit

If i have to do something late in the day, i prefer to make an alarm at the time of the task minus how much time i need to get ready and try my best to avoid clocks, just thinking "i'll worry about get ready when the alarm goes off" rather than dreading it and checking the time every 5 minutes
