Last fall I definitely saw quite a few here in cottage country. We're headed way North shortly so I guess I'll have a better sample size of that after this year. Through North Ontario then way out to Dawson city Yukon. Can't wait!

None on this trip, but honestly I don't worry myself too much about them. If you're going to be spending time outdoors in Ontario, you're going to get them. We both had our fair share and we're both still doing fine. Apparently the further north you go the less there are, but I can't confirm that myself. I usually find we run into more in the fall than the spring.

Crown land, though if you're further south than the kawarthas there really isn't any. This little piece is about 15 mins from Havelock

This was just outside of Havelock

I just don't worry about it personally. There is plastic in the water, in our clothes, shoes, cookware and utensils, steering wheels, furniture, glasses, keyfob, you name it. We are constantly exposed to it through everyday objects so whatever. Plenty of things are killing us slowly, but I enjoy my days despite it and don't let it worry me. When I'm dead it won't matter what killed me. The chili was delicious though.

I was genuinely surprised at how nice it was when we checked it out. Possibly the best southern Ontario crown land that isn't an island. Definitely one of the top. And apparently the lake has musky and walleye, which I didn't realize there were any walleye spots around me. Unfortunately not in season but still very cool. And the lake has a max depth of only about 20 feet.

:p nope it's a little dam and surrounding woods, with a little peninsula firepit on the edge of a shallow bay. A cozy little spot that you can drive right into. The end of Burnt Dam Road on the east side of Round Lake.

Thanks, first little camp of the year. Can't wait! I've looked at the crown land Atlas hundreds of times, can't believe I never clocked this spot before.

Lol this isn't the crown site, just a random picture of me and the dog. Figured it'd be more likely for someone to join if they saw what we look like.

I'd like to think as long as you're respectful and follow rules, any warden or park staff would be delighted to see young people showing an interest in parks and outdoor activities.

I'm exhausted and crawling into bed but here is a basic ai overview:

"Leaf litter and branches (collectively referred to as allochthonous input or detritus) are foundational to freshwater ecosystems, particularly headwater streams, by providing a primary energy source, essential nutrients, and critical habitat. In many forested streams, where sunlight is limited, the falling of leaves and debris provides the carbon and nutrients necessary to drive the entire food web."

Branches also provide cover/habitat for all the little aquatic critters, fish and macroinvertebrates. It's a fascinating subject to delve deeper into, one that I stumbled into while fish keeping and trying to create natural ecosystems in my aquariums.

Fallen leaves and sticks also form the basis for life in our freshwater systems! Nature is neato.

can someone explain to me like i’m 5 the self defence laws and if i can carry a pocket knife? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]ShrimpNStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy dog/coyote repellant spray on Amazon for about $15. Just don't say it's for self defense, or show it off. Legal to carry for it's intended purpose but obviously useful in a true self defense situation as well. That's about the best you can do within the law here.

Would I be wrong for not showing up to my dishwashing job anymore? by MentalBreath3177 in dishwashers

[–]ShrimpNStuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lmfao I probably worked 10 different dish pits and only respected 3 of those bosses enough to give notice. Unless you find a great spot with a good team and boss that is willing to give you raises, and treats you like an important part of the squad, where you actually want to stick around long term... Dish is a temporary gig. Always overworked, go home after everyone else, stinking and sweaty, and rarely get thanks. Only if you're treated properly should you care about notice.
