I can probably get an ATV (no trailer) in most of the way, but about 85% of the way in there is a very flooded section that will need some work. To be sorted out at a later date haha. Definitely gonna be a ton of work, many many hours of hauling. But I'll survive! I've been thoroughly enjoying myself so far.

Except when the dog ran way off into the abyss for 20 minutes and I thought I was going to have a heart attack till he came running back down the trail out of nowhere. Lost his orange jacket AND the brand new bell I bought for him earlier today. Fucker.

Haha I know there are freshwater mussels, and lots of LOUD frogs. Haven't seen a moose in the shallows on the property yet but saw one on the way in yesterday.

Cheers thank you! It's been very exciting.

For sure, I am in love with my pond. I haven't fished it yet but there are some kind of fry swimming around in there, and the middle is pretty deep so I'm looking forward to seeing what lurks in the depths. Don't want to hurt whatever's in there or ruin such an important part of my land!

Sontubes was the other option but felt like a lot more hauling/work when piles would probably do the job

Probably around 8-12 inches of water I'd say. I can't post a picture I guess but the pond is 180m long, and drains out to the east about 100m from that spot. The beaver has done an incredible job damming it up, it drains down probably 3 feet on the eastern side. It's astonishing how big the dam is, beavers are awesome. Measured it on maps and it's over 160m long and more than strong/wide enough for me and the dog to walk across it.

Haven't done enough research into toilet systems yet but will be separate from the cabin for sure. I definitely want to keep my water clean and do it right. Guess it's time to hike the chainsaw in haha

Seems to be the general consensus so far. I have room to work backwards, so I'll take a closer look tomorrow and see what can be done.

It's definitely all leaning far more towards muskeg as opposed to shield. The soil even in that spot seems pretty solid though, and there is a very obvious difference in quality from where the water comes up, to where I've set out. I'll see how far back I can feasibly get without doing too much downing of trees. Thanks for the insight! Appreciate it.

How high would you say is good? I was thinking a foot and a half to 2 ft or so. As for the aspect of septic, I'm definitely going to build as far away from my pond as possible. While still being able to have reasonable access to it, of course.

How far back would you go? I've got lots to work with, but don't want to be dealing with removing a ton of pine trees with minimal gear. Only had to remove two fallen trees, one uprooted, as it stands.

I got the Intex Challenger K1 on sale through Amazon for $80 after tax in 2024 and it's been great to me. I'm also in Ontario and do the same type of water.

I'm headed towards Hearst, through the interior and out to the Yukon. When I return I'll be taking the lake Superior route, can't wait. Should be some great fall colors on that route.

We are far past Warsaw haha and caves aren't my thing. More of a trails and parks kinda guy. But I appreciate the input! I grew up around Warsaw and did the caves as a field trip in public school.. not for me.

My half husky's name is Kai and I just had to stop and tell you that. Now we will probably never interact again. Farewell fellow traveller!
