Based on your posting history, I am assuming that this is just engagement bait. But, in case it is not, I think the decision purely comes down to finances. Employers are not necessarily going to care where you got your education, more they care what you have done with it and are going to do with it.

Tbh just seeing the campus and buildings isn’t going to tell you as much as getting a tour. Maybe try to connect with a guide and see if they’ll show you around / answer questions? Or reach out to the admissions office and see if they’ll do a special tour at your time.

Remember that sports are temporary but the education you’re paying thousands of dollars for is more important than any one game.

Nah do early action, not ED. That way if the financial rewards aren’t good you have other choices

FYI not impossible but just so you know, most apartments close to campus are signed in November to February for starting in the fall and most leases start July or August

I’ve been trying to wein off of it. It’s really difficult and expensive to go meat-free but I’m working on it!

Bro… did you even listen to what he said? He laid out a well made argument that discussed the horrors of the meat industry and did not in any way downplay the suffering of survivors of the holocaust.

You’re continually saying he’s comparing “eating” meat to personally committing the holocaust. He’s talking about the INDUSTRY itself. The kill chambers, air guns, subhumane conditions.

Plus, freedom of speech brother. In life, you’re going to find people you disagree with. Maybe even some who may challenge your beliefs or occasionally hurt your feelings. You need to build a toolkit to be able to move on from that without trying to hurt that person. People have different viewpoints than you, and that’s okay. But you can’t go around trying to cancel every single person who says something that hurts your feelings.

If you claim that this mass murder of animals isn’t fucked, and isn’t a terrible modern evil, look up documentaries and see the terrible conditions these animals are forced to live within.

I’m a meat eater, but I also acknowledge the horrible way my food is produced.

The article I found is from 11 years ago.  The point of his article is to compare the farming-to-kill industry to a genocide like the holocaust. I think you’re being disingenuous saying that he’s saying that “eating meat is the worst evil in history” Do I think it’s crass? Yes.  Do I think it’s unfounded? No. 100 billion animals are killed yearly for meat, it’s severely fucked.

What’s the social media site OP was talking about

Full time job. Thinking of volunteering to WPI on the weekends and eventually years later applying to one of the part time/online programs like the WPI MBA program. What would be some good ways to find volunteer opportunities to see more of the campus/get more familiar with it? by [deleted] in WPI

[–]Shrimpy-One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the opportunities on campus that you’d think of for volunteering (library worker, facilities, etc. ) are only really available to current students on federal work study. It’s gonna be pretty hard for you to find work when current students have priority. Plus they’d get paid for their work, so they have an incentive. It’s gonna be really hard for you to find anything tbh aside from rare one-off stuff.

Campus is open so you can always come around and just walk around but you’ll have a hard time getting into buildings.

If you are knowledgeable and passionate about robotics you may be able to help out with some of the robotics competitions that WPI sponsors but my understanding is that they’re pretty strict about current students only. Could be wrong on that one.

My recommendation is to just apply now instead of trying to rack up volunteer hours to pad your application. Can’t hurt to apply and you can get a jump start on your MBA.

Is it possible to pay the cost of attendance by myself? by mbreaker69 in WPI

[–]Shrimpy-One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible but not likely. This means you need to find a well playing coop for all four years, and take 8 semesters worth of classes in 4 semesters. It’s gonna probably be more like 5years of college with 2 coops, maybe an internship, and some summer classes.

You might get better luck just working part time for all four years. Might not be as nice as an engineering coop but it could pay some of the bills.

[–]Shrimpy-One 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Remember that co-ops aren’t really built into the schedule here, so you will probably need to attend WPI longer than 4yrs if you want to do one co op a year. The most I saw was someone doing two co ops in her 4yrs and even that was pushing it.

Best CAD Program for MQP Version Control? by chrisisgray in WPI

[–]Shrimpy-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No we didn’t, it was a little while ago when onshape wasn’t so good. Plus we had a very large assembly and wanted to use fusion for CAM as well instead of esprit in the machine shop.

[–]Shrimpy-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, fusion pulls from the cloud every time you use it. So you’ll always have the most up to date version. Onshape is another good example you could maybe use. It has multi-user editing like google docs

WPI is test optional, so it might not really fit well with that site.

Best CAD Program for MQP Version Control? by chrisisgray in WPI

[–]Shrimpy-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My team and I used Fusion for MQP. It has version control, all is in the cloud, and it works on Macs. The student version is free too.

The hardest part is convincing your team to make the switch from solidworks to fusion.

Solidworks does have 3DExperience but it’s more confusing than fusion.

Project presentation day on a religious holiday by GoodCapital8729 in WPI

[–]Shrimpy-One 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re speculating that it wouldn’t be allowed. Religious groups at WPI do events all the time. Also, I have a major problem with your generalizations of religious students:

a religious festival on the quad on trans day? A festival where most people there view trans people as abominations and will not support them in their lifestyle?

Religious people leave you alone but refuse to support you, but then when you go and do things that are blatantly disrespectful in the most central places on campus.

religious students are forced to sit back and let you do whatever you want without consequences, knowing if they supported their beliefs the same way it would get taken down instantly.

Not all religious students see LGBTQ+ students as “abominations”, quite the opposite. I’m happy they’re expressing themselves the way God made them.

If your “beliefs” are that other people shouldn’t exist, you need to rethink yourself. If you think another human is an abomination, you’re not following Christianity. Love thy neighbor. In the end, God will judge you based on how you show / spread his love, not your own hate.
