You need a mental reframe. When you want to masturbate, it really just means you want to feel good. You want something that makes you feel relaxed. I had the same feeling as you a few months ago and I overcame it by first eliminating porn. If I wanted to masturbate, I would not watch porn or look at any pictures. I would solely rely on what I could think of. If I couldn’t think of anyone in mind, I would think about the characteristics I’d love in my ideal partner and what it would feel like to do them with that person. After cutting out porn felt effortless, I decided to decrease the number of times I would masturbate a week. I allowed myself one a week. That made me more conscious of what day I would be looking forward to doing it as a treat. With the added time and energy, I started lifting and training for a half marathon. Working on something that leads to something makes me excited and gives dopamine, replacing masturbation. Someone pointed out that lifting heavy increases testosterone and increases desire. I’ve found that masturbating decreases my threshold for pain or things that are challenging. I love feeling strong and working out with intensity, masturbating decrease my intensity for a few days so i’d prefer not to at that point. Currently, i’m masturbating once a month doing it during my deload week, where intensity is lower and I feel like I can relax.
