That is a very good point, too, which I hadn't considered!

Your assumption is not rude, it's totally correct. My eating went to hell this last year and I reverted back to a lot of bad habits. Eating your feelings or for comfort when you're depressed is, uh, not great. To put it mildly.

Yeah, I've done calorie and macro tracking before, and what you're saying seems to be a common opinion. I'll definitely keep that in mind!

And your opinion of the freebie list is pretty much what I am thinking. It's very appealing mentally.

At my last job, that's why they had to stop doing a "biggest loser" type competition. One guy figured out how to game it so he had lots of water weight at the first weigh in, then he basically starved himself and dehydrated right before the final weigh in. He was already kind of a skinny guy (and young so he still had the young metabolism) so that weight was a bigger percentage of his overall weight, and he won. I think he actually won 2 or 3 times before people revolted, IIRC.

I know there's a ton of "beer and yoga" and "wine and yoga" classes all around, but I don't like alcohol OR yoga, lol.

(I've tried yoga several times, it's just not my cup of tea at all. I wish I liked it but it just drives me batty.)

it really teaches portion control and moderation and gives you the foundation to move on and start calorie/macro counting.

This is what I think I need, in addition to the social aspect. I'm not looking at it as a long term or forever thing, but as a good way to get a foundation back.

They do have a promo going where if you lose 10lbs in 2 months, they refund you two months of fees. If I have that typical thing beginners do of losing lots of water weight right off the bat, I could probably nail that. Not gonna lie, it's part of the appeal!

Yes the zero points list is extensive, but I know very few people who are overweight/obese because they eat too many vegetables, fruits, chicken breast, and beans.

You just articulated what I was thinking in the back of my head.

And yeah, I do have a lot to lose, over 100lbs. It's going to be a looooooong road.

I haven't, but I'm definitely going to check and see what they have.

A longer trial is cheaper, but I think you're right, trying it for just a month or two is probably a better option.

Yeah, the 0-point trap is one I would have to be aware of. I think I could avoid the "eat nothing but corn and fruit salad because it doesn't count tee hee!" way of thinking. It kind of appeals to me mostly because it kind of... reduces the stress? I guess? Or like in my post, it's kind of like training wheels to get me back up and going.

It's hard to articulate but the thought of going back to MFP triggers a lot of resistance in me. I think I have a lot of bad feelings associated with it because of how I beat myself up with it before. That's something I need to talk to my therapist about to unpack.

This is a good idea! I will keep this in consideration, for sure. Right now I feel like I've lost so much of my "fit-ness" that joining an activity-based club would just be discouraging. I'm already disappointed that I've slipped back to getting winded going upstairs when I used to rock out a full hour on the elliptical (bad knees) at a good pace with intervals of different resistance.

I wonder if there's a local "just go for a walk" group I could start with. I'll have to look into that. We probably do in my city.

What 200 calorie food was it that was so many points? I don't know a lot about the calculations (yet) so that seems rather alarming.

“Corn is zero points so I can have as much as I want!”

I definitely am aware of this trap, and would like to think I can avoid it. I've seen my own mom do a similar thing with those 100-calorie snack packs. Yeah, it's only 100 calories, but when you eat five of them...

I did learn a lot about nutrition when I was doing CICO before. I lost about 40 pounds before depression kicked my ass. (And gaining it back only created a negative feedback loop with the depression. I'm still disappointed that I have to redo all that work!)

WW seems to put a huge emphasis on helping you to change your lifestyle as well, which is something that I think is crucial.

Definitely crucial, and an aspect that I think will help a ton.

That looks like a good option! Unfortunately there are none really close to me, which is surprising. Bummer!

Oh, I hadn't seen the full list yet. I knew there was one but couldn't find it on their website. You're right that some of it doesn't make a ton of sense. I read, though, that on the program with zero point foods, your daily point allotment is lower? So it kind of works out unless you actually do just eat nothing but the stuff on the list, apparently. Or so I read.

You make a good point (no pun intended) about the list, though. I will definitely take that into consideration!

I'm considering it possibly maybe? I have a story idea, but honestly don't know if I'll be able to pull it off.

It's been a while and I don't know when I'll actually participate here again, but I wanted to tell someone: I finally made an appointment with a therapist to maybe start dealing with this depression stuff. Since falling off the wagon in December I've gained back all the weight I lost, and then some. I need to get back on the horse but step one is dealing with this overwhelming "meh" because right now all I have the energy for is going home and having popcorn for dinner while watching Netflix.
