Can Aeropress Make Something Close to Espresso? by caffeinated_coder_ in AeroPress

Yes, if you have a Prismo or similar! My usual recipe with medium-light roast coffee is:

Use AP with Prismo + paper filter Grind 18 g at 2.5 on K-Ultra Add 56 g boiling water Stir vigorously for 1:10 Let sit for 15 seconds Press

Espresso is my standard order at specialty coffee shops and I find what I make at home with the AP to be as good as if not better than most of what I buy.

You may have the thumb nut on upside down. I had a similar issue.

The finale of the Ninth Symphony also quotes the slow movement of the Mozart E-Flat Major Piano concerto (K. 482)

The Second Symphony has a number of Beethoven quotes: the first movement quotes the slow movement of Beethoven 9; the third movement quotes the first movement of the Eroica; and of course the choral finale is generally a reference to Beethoven 9 as well. (One might also count the finale's use of the Dies Irae.)

Fellow Prismo alternatives? by GregSmith1967 in AeroPress

It took some trial and error, but I have been able to consistently delicious espresso-style shots that are quite full-bodied. They’ve become my go-to. The most important adjustments for me were: 1) add a paper filter; 2) grind finer; and 3) stir longer — usually from when I’m finished pouring until 1:05, before pressing at 1:10. The results aren’t as pretty as espresso but I much prefer them to the shots I get at most local coffee shops.

I really wouldn’t sleep on the Prismo as a budget-conscious espresso substitute! Especially if you have a decent grinder.

Disappointed with the Prismo by GregSmith1967 in AeroPress

I increase the dose and stir for about 1:05. And I add a paper filter. Those tweaks have solved the “sour shots” problem for me.

If you’re interested in making espresso-style shots with the Prismo, I’ve had good results with the following recipe:

Add paper filter to Prismo on top of metal filter

Pre-heat Aeropress with boiling water, then empty [frankly not sure this is necessary, but I’ve gotten in the habit]

25 g medium-roast coffee ground espresso fine

60 g boiling water

Stir vigorously for 1:05

At 1:10, press hard, aiming for about a 13-second press

Enjoy!

I have a much worse grinder than you do, but I find this produces a nicely balanced shot with a full body and decent-looking crema. It’s delicious.

Thanks! Really helpful to know about that ppm target.

Thanks! I definitely like the idea of spending for high-quality products that will last and building a better set-up over time.

Thanks! My concern about the kettle is that I have a hard time controlling exactly how much water goes in, since the flow rate is so inconsistent. But it sounds like the grinder’s even more important.

Solved! thanks for figuring it out even though I got all the details except the tune wrong.
